Default best deal on 2.5 rebuild kit??

i just bought a 97 legacy outback wagon for $850 and its in nice condition. the car has been run out of oil and is seized. can anyone tell me where i can get the best deal on a complete gasket kit, bearings, timing belt ect......... for a 97 2.5. i want to tear down the motor first to make sure it isnt trashed and would like to get the stuff after that.

If the engine is truly seized, won't turn with a wrench or by hand with the plugs out, it will need far more than a rebuild kit. Would be cheaper and easier to get a good used engine.

when i changed the head gaskets in my rs the cheapest place i could find was an internet site www.rockauto.com. it was about $10 less than anywhere i called. the timing belt i got through www.subaruwrxparts.com. they were the least i could find on that.

you should be able to locate a set of bearings and gaskets fairly easily. keep in mind that the rebuild kit is going to be around $225 or more, once you get into the $400 range, you might as well buy a used motor and swap that in. and while you still have a car, tear apart the blown motor and "play" with it a bit.

i'd suggest to find a swap shop, you're looking for what they're removing

Don't forget to factor in the machine work, the expensive part of a rebuild.

the most i should need to do is cut the crank, or does anyone know a good place to get crank kits with matched bearings?
