Can RF Modulators mess with Fly By Wire systems?
I know some people with STi's had problems when they installed poorly insulated aftermarket radios.
I'm wondering if I install an RF modulator box to hook my Palm Pilot into my radio at 88.1FM to have the ability to use it like an MP3 player will disrupt / interfere with my fly by wire system in my Forester XT. *hope that made sense... Bry.

It shouldn't, as long as the modulator and its cables are properly shielded. The amount of RF energy produced by one of those isn't that much. Try to run the power and RF cables as far away from the car's harness as possible.
I recently installed an RF-modulated XM unit in an STi for a fellow member and he has not had any problems. It was a Sony unit and all the wires to the modulator had ferrite cores on them. If your unit doesn't come with these it would be a good idea to get some and use them on all the cables into and out of the modulator, they are available at Radio Shack. |

Thank you Mulder! Can I wrap them in foam and electrical tape or is it required that I use something better?

wrap them with copper wire, and have that grounded to the chassis somewhere.
all the shielded wires in your engine bay are just a wire wrapped around the others, then grounded at one, or both ends.. |
