Default metal scrapin sound

I have a 02 wrx with roughly 22,500 miles on it. the other day i got in it and started driving and heard a horrible metal scrapin sound coming from the front.it sounds like its coming from caliper rubbin on the rotor. It does look like the front pads are lil low. But the scrapin is soo loud. so i wonder if it could be cause of worn brake pads?

Is it a scraping or more of a screeching sound? The pads have metal tabs that act as wear indicators and will make contact with the rotors if the pad is worn down past a certain point. Examine the brakes more closely, take off a wheel if necessary, and see if the pads are worn down to those tabs.
If they are worn that far and the noise has just started, there will still be enough pad material left to drive for a short time without damaging the rotors but you should replace the pads ASAP. The noise is intended to get your attention so you take care of it right away.
If it isn't coming from the wear indicators, another possiblity is a small rock or pebble caught between the dust shield and rotor. This can make a nasty sound as well.

its more of a scraping sound. I mean it does look like the pads are lil low so hopefully that what it is. I have new pads on order coming from tirerack hopefully tomorrow. That pebble in the shield i will have to take alook at it. Its weird cause one day the car was perfect thent he next morning i got in it just drove it down the road and heard this horrible scraping sound it was loud to.

Had the same noise coming from my front left wheels. Happened twice, so I took off my tires and inspected my brake pads. Pads seem to be fine. It never happened since then.

Most possibly it's a small pebble that got caught in between the pads and the rotors...

the noise was loud (metallic noise high squeeling). Sounded like something was being dragged on the ground as well.

Oh, and when I put it in reverse both times it happened, I heard a loud CLUNK.. then the noise went away. Most likely it's a pebble.

i hope its a pebble or something im gonna probably takes my wheels off tomorrow and examine it more closely cuase i doubt brake pads should wear down at 22,500 miles. Thanks for the input guys. i appreciate it

In a safe place to do so, try driving 'quickly' in reverse and braking hard a couple times. It may dislodge whatever may be stuck...Worth a try.
