Unhappy Heater control question

My 2001 2.5RS has a problem with the heater control. The control that controls the air flow (floor, defrost, center vents) is "stuck" in the defrost position. The control actually moves freely through the range but the air continues to come from the defrost vents. With the current hot weather this is less than ideal. Any input on how hard it is to check the (I assume) cable run from the control to the actual air control? Thanks in advance for any help!

Kurt

I have a 02 WRX so I don't know if this will apply to your car but it might. I know from experience when I have the glove box out I can see all the heater & vent controls really well. Mine is out at the moment. I have a Digi cam and will take picture if you want.

Hope this helps

Smile heater control question

Thanks for the offer of pictures!

I spent time on Saturday and found that the control cable on the Drivers side had popped out of the retainer. Corrected and the control works fine. I got lucky and didnt need to tear the dashboard apart.

My fresh air/recirculate control is acting the same way.

How did you gain access? Remove glove box?

Thanks.

You may be able to see and access the controls and cables sufficiently just by sticking your head under the dash, but if not you can remove the glovebox, radio surround/console etc. as necessary.
