Default Seekonk Speedway:

Hey if anyone is interested sunday 8/3 me and a crew of people are going to seekonk speedway, for the spectator drags, enduro's, figure 8's, the 100 car pile-up, and more. This is by far the best $20.00 I spend in a day, well maybee a litlle more when you consider food & drink. If you want some details or think you want to meet up let me know you can meet me at F1Boston at 1pm. Subawu hope you can come.

Where is this located? I used to go to similar events at Riverside, truly a good time. And an interesting cross mix of people.

Rte 6, between I-195 exits 1 & 2.

Another RI member, Grandpa Rex, seems to be a big fan of those demolition derbys.

What a great memory you have, Ray. I drove an old beater in the figure 8 races and then the demo derby there back when dinosaurs walked the earth. Actually 1988.

I actually was the last car moving, and won $500

KC: does this make me a professional?

Actually Seekonk is a hoot. I may be tempted to join the group. I'll watch the thread.

Guys, let me tell you this thing is awesome to watch. 1st, the evening (late afternoon) starts off with spectator drags. This is a dragrace AROUND the track with 2 cars at the starting line, 1st one back to the start line wins. Being elimination, the guy that loses goes bye bye. These are street driven cars ONLY. Sometimes, accidents do happen... one time it was to someones brand new in '01 blue WRX.

Then the two winners haqve 2 runs around. I know one guy, Fedja in the Red Talon, that was asked never to come back because he kept winning, but the blue bomber he beat the 1st time was undefeated for MANY years. THen there was Leon Reitman in his talon... 11 sec 1/4 miles, and it turns too!

Then there's some type of mini moidified racing, then there';s enduros... BOMBERS like 78 Delta 88s and the like... pieces of junk all spraypained, doing like 10 laps around the track.. and contact is permitted.

There are a few classes of these and they keep like the top drivers for finals. THose that are too damaged to continue? pushed to the infield and are fodder for the demolition derby (Most of the enduro cars also participate in the Demo derby.

Then there's the figure 8 they have... mid-70s cars catching air and criss-crossing in the middle AT SPEED. I mean.. DAMN. this is quite the thing to watch and alone is worth the price of admission. There's this little hill going into and leaving the 8 on both stretches so when you're aproaching the crossing point of the 8, the hill blocks the drivers view... the driver cannnot see over the crest. Now you crest this at speed and catch air? sometimes... cruntch, sometimes they're lucky and make it across.

Now the demo derby... what fun. Last car moving wins. About a hundred cars.

Overall it's a great night. If you're into Nascar for the accidents, this is the thing to see.

The spectator drag sounds like the perfect event for a WRX with rally or snows and a driver who knows how to turn.....KC?

Later in the summer, the Spencer Fair (west of Worcester) has the double figure 8's. Free with fair admission.

HI!

To all who are interested, if you look on the speedway's website they are saying the demo is full to capacity, and people should not try enter into it anymore!!!!!!!!

To also mention, somtimes in the figure 8's and the demo you will see phsyco's that drive escorts, and other tiny front wheeld drivers!!!! Now thats a hoot.

OK for the most part, if anyone wants to go, they can meet at F1 sunday at 1pm my car (the stock looking blue WRX) will be parked on the bricks. Ill be leaving promptly at 1 to head to my house in brockton right off the highway (RT. 24) where the rest of the crew that is going will meet. From there is to gas up, and to grab (snacks). So hopefully we'll all be in route by 2:00. The racing starts at 5:00. But we have to get there early cause if you dont, there wont be any seats. The place fills up fast! We always try to sit in turn 4, its the best place to see all the action. OK so there you have it be at F1 at 1 or earlier if ya'll want to go. Billy we can make other arrangements. K?

Wow, this sounds hella cool. Are kids free? It's a bummer that it would conflict with the F1 Boston sunday evenings, though.

About 40 minutes. But it doesn't end until around 10ish... if you stay for the fire works.

It's an all night thing. If you leave at 7, you might just see only the spectator drags.
