Default P0519 trouble code on 2003 WRX

My ECU has the P0519 trouble code. Anyone know what this code is for? 2003 WRX. I can't find it anywhere.

Cheers

Mick

It's not a defined SAE code so it must be a WRX specific code. Ideas. It falls into the speed and idle range of codes?

There is no P0519 code listed in the MY02 FSM. I don't have the MY03 FSM here so I can't check to see if it is listed in there.

I have found out this about the trouble code:

Quote:
P0519
Idle Air Control System Performance
Would someone like to guess what it is trying to tell me. The code has actually cleared itself from the ECU so I do not think it's an urgent issue. I would still like to know why it was triggered.

The code is listed in my Actron OBD-II scanner book as well as in the MY03 FSM.

Quote:
BOTX P0519 -- IDLE CONTROL SYSTEM MALFUNCTION (FAIL-SAFE) --
  • DTC DETECTING CONDITION:
  • Immediately at fault recognition
  • TROUBLE SYMPTOM:
  • Engine keeps running at higher revolution than specified idling revolution
CAUTION:
After repair ore replacement of faulty parts, conduct CLEAR MEMORY MODE and INSPECTION MODE.
There are actual troubleshooting steps, but I'll have to post those laters when I go back home.

In plain English-
The ECU could not get the engine to idle at the proper RPM.
This could indicate a problem with the idle air control valve, or something else.
If you get a CEL again, scan it to be sure it's the same code but don't clear it, and take it to your dealer so they can fix it.

Thanks I thought it may have something to do with the idle air control valve. Taking my wrx to the dealer is out of the question. They don't want to touch it, stage 4, UTEC etc etc etc..

I will check that the control valve is not sticking and is connected
properly.

Thanks for the help.

Greetings Mick,
I just got this code too after driving from Boston to NYC...was idling on the FDR and I saw this come on. The car was idling at about 1500 (+1000 over normal) and hesitated, etc as I would apply gas. The car sat in a garage over night and in the morning the CEL was still on, but the hesitation and high idle were gone. I filled up with a new tank of gas about 100 miles later (trip back) and when I started the car the CEL was gone. The car runs normally now (it's a MY03 WRX also). Have you had any problems since this? I have zero engine mods on my ride.

Any help would be great, thanks!

sorry to bump a long dead thread, but my 04 OBS CEL came on today on my way home from work. I went to Autozone and it pulled this code. As far as I could tell, idle was fine and I didn't see any hesitation or anything like that. I noticed someone mentioned their car threw this in the heat. It's been hot and humid here for the better part of a week (it wasn't too bad yesterday or Saturday but has been brutal). I didn't have him clear the code but I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas beyond what's been mentioned. Like I said, it seemed to be idling normally and didn't seem hesitant. Figures too, if there is a problem it's like 2 weeks after the factory warranty expired > oh well worse comes to worse I do have an extended warranty on it.
Edit-Just went and started it up again and let it idle, it's idling around 500rpm but it does seem rough (doesn't sound quite right and the airbox seems to be vibrating more than normal).

well an update, much like another poster, I started my car this morning and no rough idle and no CEL. I'll keep and eye on it if it comes up again I'll definitely pursue it but seems to be just a fluke.

Ok so an update to my story. A few days ago I got the CEL again (didn't get a chance to pull the code but I suspect it was the same as before). Car seemed to be idling roughly. CEL turned off the next day.
Took it to the dealership today and they and they found the Neutral Safety Switch had failed so they replaced that. It must have been considered powertrain since my bumper to bumper warranty was up in July and there was no charge. So a heads up to any of you that may encounter this code.

Cardiff Giant,

Hey, I know this thread is over two years old, but I am curious if replacing the Neutral Safety Switch curred your problem. My car ('03RS, 5MT, 60K) throws a P0519 every once in a while, like today. In doing research, it seems that safety switch can be the cause. Again, did it take care of your P0519 issues?

It's a long shot, but I'll bump this dead thread again... I'm having the same P0519. New IAC didn't fix it, beginning the suspect the neutral safety switch, a dirty MAF, bad O2, or some miniscule vacuum leak that has evaded me. Any solutions would be appreciated. Thanks!

DOH! In my search for vac leaks and electrical issues I totally forgot to check that the idle stop screw wasn't adjusted incorrectly. Not sure how it got moved (or if it ever did), but it needed re-adjusted and that was the issue. Though I am throwing an 0507 now, not sure what's up with that.
