Default Difference starting in neutral or gear?

Is there any additional wear or stress on any part of the transmission or clutch system when starting car while in gear (i.e first or reverse) - I used to always have car in neutral when I started it - but a lot of people say it's ok to start it while in gear. I understand that clutch is disconected and all - but anyway....I start it in a gear for couple of month - just though to go ahead and check with you guys.
