Hello all,
I have an STI that will have about 500 miles on it when I take out on a road course next week and was wondering if I should change the oil before hand. And if I should, would I use synthetic or dino oil? I am leaning towards changing it to get rid of any of the break-in metal, but using a high quality dino oil to allow the engine to continue its break-in. Thoughts, comments, experiences?? THANKS! Enrique

Don't you still have 500 miles to go before your break-in period is over? I'm asuming it's 1,000 (the same as the WRX). Personally, I would wait to take it out on the track until then.......or take a few long drives in the next week before the event.

I agree with the above, why are you tracking a brand new car, do you want it to last 20k miles and then die? Give it some time to break in fully.

It looks like I will be closer to 1000 miles than it thought, since I didn't take in to consideration the 200 mile drive up there. I am now also going to take another road trip this weekend just to bump up the miles.
Hopefully I can get to at least 1000 by the time I get there. Thanks for the feedback.. Enrique |

Isn't break in more than just miles? That 1000 miles is supposed to include stop and go driving with moderate combustion chamber pressures (part throttle accel) to seat the rings.

My point was that taking the car to the track is not the best thing to do during the break-in period. .......at least the way I would drive that car @ the track. ![]() |

Definately wait until 1000 miles before changing the oil. That's the advice I had from several dealerships.
