Talking Need Help With Next Phase of Mods

need help with next phase of mods
PLEASE HELP ME

I am ready for more power!!

I currently have a 02 wrx wagon with the following power mods

godspeed catless uppipe
godspeed catless downpipe
prodrive axle-back
silencer hack with green panel filter
samco intercooler hoses
blitz sbc-id electronic boost controler
lnr larger hood scoop (gains may be questionable but i can dream)
zerosports hoodscoop splitter (gains may be questionable but i can dream)
grounding mod(gains may be questionable but i can dream)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

so thats what I currently have. I like how the car performes now, I plan on keeping the wagon for anouther 3.5 years (pay it off) get the Sti, and give the wagon to my wife.

my plan is to get a bigger turbo, for the waggon. Then in 3.5 years, swap all the performance goodies from the wagon to the new STi, and return the wagon to stock with all the stock parts i saved.

Takeing the leap to bigger turbo is quite expensive

new turbo.......................$800.00 to $1400.00
engine management.......$900.00
bigger intercooler............$900.00
bigger injectors...............$500.00 to $650.00
dyno tunning...................$400.00 to $600.00
bigger fuel pump..............?????
sum.....................$3500.00 to $4450.00.......WOW

The question is this..... Will I percive $3500.00 to $4450.00 worth of pleasure from these mods? I already have an eastimated 280H.P. at the flywheel.

did anyone go the same upgrade path that I am on? please explane/ convince me that the turbo upgrade is worth it, how much better seat of the pants is the bigger turbo, compared to my current stage 2?

part 2 of quetions......
what turbo, injectors, fuel pump, engine management, intercooler should I go with for driveability/ smoothness (mountain roads driveing)

part 3 of questions.......
will there be any problems fitting all this on my Sti in 3.5 years?
will I need bigger injectors and bigger intercooler? will the engine management hook up to the new STi?
basicly what will fit from old wagon set-up to new Sti?

lets say with this bigger turbo set-up I'm makeing 350 wheel H.P
how much wheel H.P. will I make on the new Sti when I make the parts swap?

Thank You

Default mods

Well I think you are pretty much on track. IMO, there are a lot of things you can do to save money. First, of the list of things to buy next, I'd go with the turbo last. The OEM still has plenty of power in it to "release". Also, alot of those items can be had by buying off the classifieds. You can save half those amouhnts buying used. Second, you can get a COBB reflash for 400 smacks.
So this is what I would do next.
1. Larger intercooler.
2. Perrin injectors and walbro fuel pump
3. get the cobb reflash to reflect all those mods so you dont have to reflash again, maybe even dyno tuned if there are other places to do it besides SLC by then.
Turbo last. You can even just get an oem polished and ported. I personally like the early spool of the turbo compared to the late spoool of many others. You can get way larger hp gains with them but higher up in the power band.

Other things to consider: Have you done any suspension work? With that kind of hp you want to be able to have better control of the car. I dont think too many parts will be interchangeable to the STI so your wife may end up having a badass grocery getter....

Hope this helps some.

Part 1)
Read that August Sport Compact Car issue, they have three WRXs that have been modified and they stack them up against some STi figures. That might give you a guess as to whather or not your money spent would be worth it.

Part 2)
The answer is really subjective and depends on what your goals are.

Part 3)
Yes there will probably be problems fitting all that stuff on. Different turbo, for one, EM won't work, dyno tune is a sunk cost and you won't get that back, the STi already has bigger injectors.

I don't know, but I wouldn't think that the WRX up-pipe would fit the STi twin scroll turbo, might be wrong.

Your intercooler might fit since the STi can fit the WRX. There is that little ray of hope for you.

The usdm sti has a VF39, not a VF37

it also comes with a catless uppipe so theres no reason to swap it.
