Thumbs down Can't get a WRX until...

Can't get a WRX until I sell my Taurus SHO. I need like $4000 for it. I am in Austin, Tx. If anyone knows a way to sell this car tell me. The dealer is offering $1000 dollars for my car but the autotrader is having it sold for 6-4000. Tell me what to do.

don't forget the dealers have to check it over, clean it up, make repairs, etc. . . which they don't get back..your better off IMHO selling it outright on auto-trader.com or such

My dealership was only going to give me $725 for my 86 Nissan truck. I said, "no thanks". I sold it for $2,200 in like 2 days. I had originally bought the truck for $2,600 4 years earlier . Only had 178,000..hehe.

WR-REX, when I was heving my selling the used car woes, I just went to http://www.autotrader.com and did the free 20 day listing and had tons more call than I ever did posting it in local papers.

My .02.

Edit: And I actually sold both my cars using this as well.

When I was buying my first Subaru a couple years ago, the dealer offered me $600 for my '83 Saab 900 Turbo. Blue book was $3000, but it had a few minor problems. I just parked it on the street with a sign in the window. I sold it about a week later for $1500.

I just bought the WRX for MSRP, but the dealer tried to mess with me on the trade. My 1998 2.5RS (Rally Blue w/Gold Wheels) with 65k miles has been serviced there for 3 years, and all they offered me was $6000. I simply got up, and walked out.....on the way out to the parking lot, the GM offered me 9000, so I turned around and went back in to finish the deal.

Either way, the dealer made out very well....so they can't cry poverty to me. This will be added leverage if and when I buy an STI from them in 4 years or so...

The salesman was an idiot, too. When I took delivery of the car, he wanted to show me all of the features, etc...I picked up the keys and left without saying much. HE was again in shock!

I know how you feel about the trade-in blues. I'm trying to get rid of my Jeep, so I thought I'd trade it in on an older (read cheap) Wrangler. Pshaw. Wholesale book on my Jeep is $22k. They offered me 18k. The Wrangler I was looking for... retail price was like $11,200, but it had the stereo stolen so the top was trashed as was the dashboard. Plus it had been sitting on their lot in the back 40 collecting dust for a month. I offered them $9500. They shot me down... wouldn't budge on the price. Whatever.

So if anybody wants a '99 WJ Laredo, loaded, 33kmi for $24k, let me know. (retail is $27)

I just want to say thank you. My cousin is a big SHO enthusiest, and when I saw this posting it absolutely made my day, especially when my cousin has that basically no one would trade an SHO for a Subaru, but then here comes the WRX and when I told him what kind of power it had, for once he didn't have a rebuttal on why his SHO was still better than the Impreza! GO SUBARU!

I took $3,000 trade for my 1993 SHO 5 speed towards my 2000 2.5RS, and the car was worth $7,500 easy.

But, I'd spent $4,600 in maintaining the SHO during the 16 months prior to dumping it, and didn't want to keep it even 1 more day. I loved the power of the SHO, but now my turbo RS would run circles around the SHO if I am only running 4lbs of boost with the boost controller off!

The best way to sell the SHO is to a "SHO enthusiast" privately in autotrader or the news paper.

You definitely get more for a car selling yourself, IF you can do the extra hassle and the difference in price makes it worth the effort. We traded my 84 Volvo wagon in for my Subie last year for $400, probably would have gotten $1200 or so selling outright, but didn't need another car sitting the driveway and just didn't want the hassle. If it had been much newer, would have sold myself, tho..

Just wanted to through a thought in here. Yes, you get more for your car if you sell it on your own(usually, not always), but if your trade is worth a substantial amount in relation to the cost of the new one, don't forget that you only pay taxes on the difference between the new car and the trade-in. Sometimes it is worth while just to trade. Less hassle too. Now if your car is of relatively low value compared to the car you are considering, you will do better selling it on your own.

BTW...even if you owe money on your car, you only pay the difference between the two cars. They add on what you owe after the tax calculation....another plus.

yea im looking to most likely trade in my car if i dont give it to my lil brother. I went in to the local scooby dealer last week and they told me all theyd be able to give for my spotless 1998 Gran Prix supercharged GTP is $12,500. I looked at the guy and laughed.

that 5 grand under what its worth. i basically told the guy he was full of **** and then when i acted uninterested in the WRX he said, "well im sure we could work something out and get ya some more."

you have to MAKE them take you seriously. I am 19 and in college but i know what im doing and this will be my 2nd car to deal on. its ok to tell them what kind of deal they will give you. sort of like an obi-wan thing. and if all else fails i givem the line "hey man im just trying to deal here, if you dont wanna work something out, ill just call in my mom." that gets em every time too.
