Default Can Whister DE-1748 radar det. be hard-wired without kit?

Hey all, I'm planning to get this Whistler Radar Detector:

http://www.buyradardetectors.com/Pro...r-DE-1748.aspx

Is there an easy way to hardwire it into the car without getting the kit they have here for $9.99?

https://www.buyradardetectors.com/Pr...wer-Cords.aspx

Also, any recommended cheaper shops to get Whistler radar detectors?

Thanks.

If you don't mind cutting up the cord you could splice the wires into the same wires running to your cigarette lighter.

I however, took a different approach. I purchased a second cigarette lighter from Wal-mart and spliced the wires from it into my factory wires effectively giving me a second power outlet. I hid this up under the dash and plugged my radar detector cord into it and then ran the wire up to the radar detector hiding the cord in the seams of the dash.

I forgot to mention that I also hooked the second outlet to a switch so I could turn my detector on and off from the console. Much easier than messing with the switch on the radar detector.

Hey, that's a really good idea. How much was the cigarette lighter? Did you also get the switch from walmart? Thanks!
