Default "Brake" Light

I noticed last night driving home my "brake" light came on. The "brake" light is normally a signal that the emergency brakes are engaged however I was switching between 1st and 2nd at redline; the light only flashed? However this morning driving to work in 2nd leaving an intersection I noticed the brake like came on by itself and stayed on for a few seconds then went back off? What's so I check because the brake like should not come on unless I have the emergency brakes engaged.

The brake light will also come on when the brake fluid is low.
I would check that. If the fluid is low most of the time that means that the brake pads are almost shot. Check the fluid if it is low then check the brake pads. If the pads are fine then you probably have a leak some where.

This belongs in the brakes and suspension forum but anyway-
If you do find your fluid is low don't just add more to fill it up. If in fact your pads are worn and you fill the reservoir before installing new pads, it will then overflow when you do change them because of the pistons being pushed back in the calipers.

It is also possible that the wire to the ebrake sensor is coming loose. Disconnected=light-on. If you have a turbo timer hooked into the ebrake you may want to double check that.

Just a thought. Hope you get things figured out.

Default Yo

I never thought low brake fluid would set off the EBrake light. Well I have 50K+ miles on these pads as they are still the factory ones; I think it's time to change them anyways. I was thinking off a loose connection or some short w/ the UTEC or something electronic thus the reason I posted in this forum. I guess it's all a learning experience.
