Tune in small steps. Change one variable (boost, fuel, timing) at a time if you can. You already have these; EGT/AF, boost right? Turn everything to 0 modification or ECU control and make some logs of what you are running now, you can see what safe area you are in now, and then compare that to what you end up with after playing around.

BTW, what do you think about the GT Spec header? Like it? Lost much lower end, gain any upper end?

yea i have boost, Oil temp, Oil press, Fuel Press, water temp, and EGT gauges with memory and peak hold. Do you think I should start with the stage 3 map?

As for the GTspec headers and uppipe. I did the install of those at the same time as the deadbolt turbo, so all I can say is that i did feel a little bit of lost low end, but the turbo's quicker spool made up for that. Also, the top end on the car is REDICULOUS now. Unbelivable. Pulls very strong to redline. In fact, I hit fuel cut for the first time to today, still pulling hard.....wow!

If you are using the stock IC start the tuning from the stg.2 map, not stg.3 IMO.

The map is fairly rich, and the timing is somewhat conservative, ad the boost map needs to be tweaked.. So it gives you a great starting point to make changes from.

Start the tuning with the boost first IMO, even though you have the deadbolt stock turbo, don't forget that you are still on the stock fuel system so I wouldn't have the boost peak any higher than 16.5-17psi in 4th gear.

On my car the EGTs don't ever go any higher than 800C at WOT, usually they peak at 790C during long 4th gear pulls and my fuel map is much leaner than the base map.. Use that as your "hey my egt's are getting too high I should let off" point if you want.

My advice for the ignition tuning, bring it all the way down to the 10% column, don't have large jumps in the numbers ie; more than 3-4 degrees difference between MLPs and add advance in slowly after you have the boost and fuel maps done with. And datalog after your changes, especially if you are getting knock.

If you want to see the map I am currently using for my car let me know we have simlar mods (minus the turbo and header mods).

Also, don't expect to understand or do all of this stuff in the first day, take your time. It took me 3-4weeks before I really got a hold of the UTEC and a few trips to the track to do some testing and tuning before I found a great map for my car..

Paul

Other things that make life easier:

SHIFT+ (up,down, left, or right) will highlight multiple blocks then..

you can hit CNTRL+F, which will fill in the entire block with whatever value you type in, or CNTRL+U, which will add/subtract the blocks with whatever value you type in. You get negative values by simply putting a - in front of the number ie: -1.5

yea man, if its ok with you, send me your map, and i'll use it in case i get stuck trying to tune with a base stage 2. Is there a big difference in the maps between stage 3 and stage 2?

The differences are in the fuel and boost maps, the timing is the same i think.

Ok cool...I think I'll definitely put it in next week....although I have an autoX a week from tomorrow, so I would want the car running well for that....maybe i'll leave the MBC in until after that.
