Unhappy JIC Bullet 505S Titanium Exhuast on STi

NOTE: After a few hundred miles my exhuast started to get too close to the tunnel and the resonator will rattle against it or on the support bracket under the drivshaft under certain conditions. Until I can figure out a way to prevent this, I wouldn't recommend getting this exhaust on the STi.

---------------------------

I recently installed the JIC Bullet 505S ti exhaust on my STi. I had about 1500 miles with the stock setup, about 1000 with just a ScoobySport axel-back (temporarily taken off my wagon). My ScoobySport is one of the Hayward and Scott handmade ones from 2001.

Details: http://www.jic-magic.com/Exhaust/505...05s_detail.htm

Stock - quiet, but with a nice low rumble, especially at idle. NOTE, the stock resonator on the STi is larger than the WRX. muffler 22lbs, resonator pipe - 12lbs = 34lbs total

ScoobySport - moderate loudness, but that great SS sound. Problem is, it barely (1-2mm) clears the rear diff. This results in occasional bumping of the exhaust and diff. The rear diff on the STi is wider than the WRX, about to the point of where exhausts that wonít clear the diff protector on the WRX probably wonít clear on the STi. muffler 20lbs

JIC titanium - it weighs a mere 14lbs (all the weights are from my bathroom scale) for the entire thing. It is very well made and has a superb fit and finish. It fits into place perfectly and is more secure as, if not more so than the stock exhaust. (NOTE: After a week of driving, I went to rotate the tires and looked underneath at the exhaust. It was very close to tunnel on the driver's side. Also, it is much closer to the support bracket for the driveshaft (which looks different than the WRX). Overall, it was too close for comfort, so I losened it up and readjusted the support bolt on the rear-cat bracket. I gained a little but it it still pretty close. We'll see...) It is centered on the bumper in the correct area and looks great. It is loud, louder than the ScoobySport. I classify it as less edgy than a ScoobySport and with more bass. It does not drone on the highway, but it makes itself known, especially if you have the windows down and go WOT.

Overall, I still like the sound of a ScoobySport a little better. Keep in mind that Iíve heard many of the popular exhausts and donít think any are better sounding than a SS. I think an aftermarket downpipe with the JIC would bring back enough edginess to satisfy me here. As it is I am very happy with it.

Both the SS and JIC felt better on the car than the stock muffler, especially at higher RPMs. Moving the stock STi muffler to my wagon I could feel an immediate difference in the wagon. It felt pokier. I donít see how it canít be a bottleneck.

Bottom-line: It will shave 20 lbs, it feels good and it is a good sounding, loud exhaust with great looks and superb craftsmanship. Of course, it comes at a price. $$$

Are the newer SS exhausts better fitting? and does anyone have any sound clips of the SS exhaust. I'm hearing only good things about this exhaust. Does it drone on the highway? When you say not as bassy, is it raspy at all? I'm sorry about the SS questions when this is about the JIC but i just purchaused the TXS stealthback and i'm looking to upgrade to a quality sounding, fitting and looking axel-back. Any input would be great. Thanks in advance.

There are some sound clips and a video of the SS floating around. Let me know if you want one, I can e-mail a video to you.

The SS doesn't drone at cruise, but the louder volume is noticeable in my wagon. It has a very balanced sound and basically is just bad***.

Just got my JIC Bullet Stainless. It has a very nice note and noise level. HOWEVER, it rattles VERY BAD!!! I plan to write JIC right now and complain about their product. For $650 (or around there), I shouldn't have an exhaust that sounds like it's going to fall off every time I hit the throttle.

Do not buy this exhaust (unless you want to buy mine in which case you can pm me. )

I have no first-hand experience but I have not heard good things about JIC's exhausts....from users and vendors!

in terms of the rattling of the exhaust, did you replace the exhaust hangers with polyurethane ones. This is most likely the culprit. The stock rubber hangers are not very good.

i've had my JIC TI exhaust since the first of the year, i have been nothing but happy with the system. however the system did slip up a little and caused a noise on down shifting it was hitting the rear diff cross brace. it was caused by on of the clamps shifting, and causing the exhaust to move up a little. no problems other wise just my.02
steve
ps also have JIC SS header and that thing is bad***

I am picking up a used 505s Ti and do not have any instructions with it. Wondering, does anyone know what the bolts on the clamps should be torqued to???

Thanks!
