Default SnowTires OK on Strip?

I have snow tires mounted on my stock 16's. Would it be worth a try to see what I get for times. Or would there be too much wheel spin? I read somewhere that snow tires aren't allowed on the strip sometimes. Or is it all the time?

If I can't use my snows I may have to mount some different tires. I am reading elsewhere that 18" P1's might have too much rotational mass (or inertia?). My best 60' time (still not great) was when i drove through the water in the burnout area which gave me more wheelspin.

Default choices choices

They may let you run them. I tried the ones that I use for rallyx one night on a test and tune night.

Very soft launches even at stock power levels. Very friendly to the tranny but not any good for low short times. IIRC I was getting consistant low 2.x 60' times.

I used my stock 16" rims with my winters on them and my 60 foots stayed under 2.0. I also got a better 1/4 time compared to when i used my 17" rims (14.39 down to a 14.20).

this is what happened to me when I ran at E-Town just as the season started and I still had the snow tires on.

It was fun though!

That's awesome! I'm definitely bringing them now!

What mods do you have Alex? It seemed like you were on ice...

Lol, I think that there was some ice or water there. It was imports vs domestics and I don't think they preped the import side as well as domestic. As for the mods, I have catless stock uppipe, BPM catelss downpipe, high flow cant and crush bent 3" exhaust with borla muffler. Stock turbo modified with 16G compressor wheel and larger exhust wheel, sti injectors and injen cold air. stock compuetr with S-AFC.
Next run they cleaned the track better and I ran 13.9 at 99 with 2.2 sixty foot spinning again but not as badly.

I love these new icons!

Snow tires at speed get scary. Too much sidewall and too much wobbling. I wouldn't try it. I drove on Hakka Q's on the highway, and its not pretty at 60mph.

Well, I tried tyhe snow tires yesterday, but the results weren't what I was hoping for. I think the track was a little wet, but if you want to know what happened, just watch the video clip and take out the snow, make it sunny. I spun at the line, barely moving forward and started to slide sideways. I had to come off the throttle completely. I ran a 14.5@102mph.

I have been driving in snow and bad weather with snow tires for so long that I don't even notice the extra sidewall and wobbling at speed. You just can't take the corners the same way you would with your summer tires.

Oh yeah, I have Dunlop Graspics on stock rims...very soft tread, i wish the track was dryer.
