Default Location and opinions about Gay marriage?

So I've noticed that the opinions about Gay Marriage are based largely on where you're from.

I notice that if you are from areas that have a more diverse population, you tend to support gay Marriage, while if you're from a less diverse area, you tend to be against it.

I'm just curious to see the numbers

Hmmm, its tough to say. Originally I'm from a place that I would consider a non-diverse place, and I was for gay marriages. And for the past five years, I've lived in a more diverse area and I'm still for it.

I voted for "For it: non-diverse place" in this case because my mind didn't change when I moved to a bigger city. But on the other hand, I don't know if I really believed it when I lived in the non-diverse town. It really took living in a more diverse area to cement in certian ideals (and weed out others).

It doesn't really affect me so I don't care either way. I think the whole idea of marrage is stupid anyway.

Although I would probably get married if it made the girl I was with happy, and if I planned on being with her the rest of my life and all...

doubt it's about population diversity, but I'm sure it trends nicely with overall liberal / conservative views.

I voted on the poll anyway, though.

Why don't you go ahead and change option for to read "Self-styled ign'ant country bumpkin?"

Seriously, that's a pretty loaded poll.

same here, pretty much My beliefs on this issue, though, are based on my whole philosophy/worldview, not my comfort level with diversity.

from chicago and ive been against it from day 1

its like allowing those of us who are less fortuanate and are confined into wheelchairs into major league baseball. (not that i have anything against people in wheelchairs, one of my good friends has cerebral palsay and agrees with this) Both those who are gay and those who are handicapped both can be the best people in the world, but allowing them in would ruin the institution.

I'm for it and originally from a metropolitan sprawl (NJ). I've recently moved to a very small area (border of Iowa and Illinois), but that of course, has not changed my opinion on the matter.

Worst analogy evAr. It's more like not allowing people in wheelchairs to play any sports at all, even with teams who want to let them play.

I have no problem at all with gay men. I know a couple and they're cool guys. I just cant stand the gays that feel the need to throw it in your face every 5 minutes or start making out with their b/f in public. I really dont need to see that.

I also dont agree with gay adoption. Not that I think gays will make horrible parents because they are gay. Little kids can be brutal and if daddy shows up with daddy to watch your soccer game you can bet the other kids are going to tear into the poor kid.

I don't know about you, but as a child, I didn't even need that kind of ammunition to make another kid feel bad. I could easily find something stupid to use to taunt the child, regardless of his parent's sexual orientation.

I'm sorry, but that argument holds no water. Kids will be kids. They will taunt and make fun of each other as they try to find their own level of self-worth. No matter what their parents say/do/are, all kids are going to go through a process of discovering this for themselves.

Hell, I made fun of adopted kids when I was young. Got into a fight with him and said "well, at least my mommy loved me enough to keep me". I'm pretty sure it hurt him more than it would some kid who had two fathers or two mothers. What can I say? I was 10 years old and feeling spiteful. I'm sure he got over it though(I know he did since I'm friends with him now).

Love is love, marriage is marriage. Marriage, IMHO, should be a legally-sanctioned union between two people who love and cherish each other.

I don't know that specifying gender would provide the institution of marriage with any more or less strong of a sanction. There are both gay and hetero couples who engage in exactly the same types of behavior, from a loving, stable, long-term relationship to being a couple of abusive rat bastards.

For me, it's all about tolerance and respect for each other. Live and let live. There is nothing that would make a gay marriage any more or less binding than a heterosexual one. I don't see what the problem is.

I think that this does point to a larger problem of societal impingement upon personal liberties, sexual in this case. If sexual preference is hard-wired, who are we as a society to say "Sorry, I know you can't help who you are, but you can't get married to the person that you love unless it's a member of the OPPOSITE sex. Thanks for playing." I don't believe that we have that right, even if we are exercising it. I don't think that something is "wrong" just because it runs counter to someone's belief systems, or what they may or may not think is "gross."

It's an issue of respect. You can't say it's an issue of Christian charity any more, given the Catholic church's views on gay unions. "Love your fellow man, just not in THAT way." Unreal, IMHO.

I'm from Chicago, btw...
