Default 2004 Baja, due when?

Does anyone know when the 04 turbo will be out?

I was told bt SOA Friday it will be out in Sept. I also rechecked the colors. A frosty white w/ silver bottom, black top w/ charcoal bottom, medium gray top w/ silver bottom, and the other colors from 03. The regular Baja will not get the white or black/charcoal colorway but will get the two tone gray.Leather standard on both.

I got 2 emails this morning from different dealer that I was asking the EDA - now they say late Oct/early Nov. Well, that's Colorado, 3 weeks or so later than east. But even that that's over a month delay from earlier talk of August. What's going on? Last min fix?

Default Maybe even December

I had asked a local dealer to check on the Turbo and she replied that she just heard from Subaru- Maybe not 'till December!

Could be the XT is so popular that Japan doesn't want to send any motors for the Baja T.

I guess that settles it, we are probably more likely to get the XT.

Unhappy

Looks to be somewhat correct - November, as I was told by SOA in email yesterday. Here is the catch, though. "Baja non turbo will be available in October..." Hu? There was a post a month or so ago with monotone blue Baja was posted (at a dealer in East), and had 04 sticker on it. So, either SOA is sending some feeler out to some dealers, or SOA doesn't know what they are talking about. I believe latter case (with a heartbeat) as they are more and more proven unreliable. Delayed introduction (from Sep) is probably due to 6-month inventories on 03 models. SOA is hoping to get rid of them before getting Turbo out. But that same delay will probably put the manual transmission introduction at the same time as Sportshift. A friend of mine just abandoned Baja T and went with Jeep Liberty. I don't blame him - interest rates may be going up, and probably up by Nov. Called lost opportunity by screwing the market.

By the way, go to www.subaru.com and do the survey SOA is putting out through JD Power. Let'em hear you!

The head master mechanic / boss at my local dealer is waiting for a turbo Baja for himself. He told me it won't be here till January. Richard

I hope I'm wrong, October would be great. I was at my dealer today and he still thinks it will be January for his delivery BTW he owns the last US Brat made .

After I got off the phone with Subaru about the Baja Turbo I called my dealer. Asked the same question and they said December. I'd like to hope that SOA knows more than the dealers.

Last year I was at the same dealer having some service done and asked the same question about the new original Baja and they said "About six weeks". Fifteen minutes later a transporter pulls up with a yellow Baja on the back.

Unfortunately even if it's early October that is after the California car license fee increase so we will probably decide on XT or Baja Turbo within a few weeks. If it's XT we can avoid the fee, if Baja we'll just have to pay it. I wish there was pricing info on the Baja T.

I know your frustration with the lack of info. I couldn't get pricing and delivery dates on my XT. I'd placed a 1k deposit on an STI, then changed it to the XT soon after it was announced. Couldn't get diddilly from SOA, at least my dealer was honest and didn't give me any BS.

I almost bought an Element.

SOA thinks we are mushrooms. Keep us in the dark and feed us manure.

BUT, you won't be disapointed with the 2.5 turbo in any Subaru. I'm glad I waited. Richard

Smile MotorWeek test drive

Motorweek (PBS) is doing the test drive on Baja Turbo in late October:

Road test the performance Audi RS6 twin-turbo V-8 sedan and the Subaru Baja Turbo crossover.

SUN 10/26/03 3:00 pm
WED 10/29/03 4:00 pm

By then, maybe there will be a true user driving impression out... I hope!

Currently it's about .67% of the purchase price for the first year, then it drops with the value but still the same percentage. Eventually I think it settles at around $25 for a really old, worthless vehicle (like my '87 Toyota).

Starting October 1 it goes to 2%. That means the first year for a $25k car would be $500 instead of $170. Some of the candidates for governor have promised to reverse this increase, and one has suggested having it apply only to the amount over $20k.

BAJA T Delivery-
I had sent a message to SOA about towing with the Baja Turbo and got this response this morning (edited):

Quote:
Thank you for visiting the Subaru Web site and for your interest in Subaru
products. The 2004 Baja Turbo is not yet available. ... they should be available at dealerships by
December.

Jim,
That is not too bad. We had it a lot worse here in wa not to long ago. it was about 4% of the value of the car and it didn't go down. We have a idiot creating in****ives that are cripiling our states revenu and causing the state to go down hill. These in****ives are going to too extream. We went from collecting 4% taxes for upkeep on our roads down to a flat fee of $35. That extream really hurts. But I like the idea of it just being the first year of ownership and then going down from there. and that $500 on a $25K car is not as bad as paying 4% on a car that is 4 years old and depreacated only a little and still paying $500 each year.

That is crazy for fees!!! We pay $75 a year regardless IIRC.

How did you spell "incentives" that it was censored?

Unhappy 40 more days and counting...

SOA told me yesterday it is now December. Guess that's absolutely the last moment they can call Baja T as 04 model. So they did their maximum best to push things back as far as it legally could. Oh well, 1.5 more months to go... Then probably they'll charge full +27k for everybody-knows-it-will-soon-be-replaced model.

If you ask me, Baja's failure to catch on is almost entirely due to SOA - they didn't put t in the first place, and they just dogged introduction of turbo. Hey Mr. FHI CEO, it's SOA to blame, not the market!!

Test drove a Baja yesterday and I may be trading the M3 for the turbo model. I really was hoping to get my hands on one before the snow starts to fall though. I'm going to ask the dealer if they'll give me a good offer (similar to the $200 over invoice which was their first offer on an '03) if I preorder an '04 turbo.

How much are people buying '03's for anyway? I assume they're going for invoice minus rebates. I would buy one now except I can't deal with the fact that a turbo version would be for sale in 1.5 months.

I got my Baja for $100 over invoice. And I didn't even ask for it, that was what was offered to me, so I took it instead of haggling. I got my bed cover and front bra really cheap too.

I got my '03 Baja Classic for several thousand dollars under invoice. Ordered almost ever option I could get but I still need the hard tonneru cover. Couldn't work a deal on it. I'm adding a DVD and LCD. Will post pictures after I get the screen in. At the time I bought it my dealer wasn't sure they were going to get any more in. My dealer had to trade another for it. A week after I got it they started getting more shipments in every week. Said they've been selling quite fast. (Still have only seen two others on the road though.)

In the NJ area, the only places you see Bajas are on dealer lots. Did you mean several thousand under MSRP? Even if they sold it at invoice, there's only a $2000 rebate.

I think that the dealers think that the '04 models aren't going to sell any better. I asked our local dealer if they'd accept an offer of invoice price on a new '04 Turbo and he said yes.

I also got the following email from SOA:

Thank you for visiting the Subaru Web site and for your interest in Subaru products. We do apologize for the delay in availability of the 2004 Baja Turbo. The 2004 Baja models, including the new Baja Turbo, should be available at Subaru dealerships in December.

Still trying to decide if I should give up my beautiful M3 for a weird lookin truck/car thingy.
