Hi, I am going to be swapping a 02 WRX engine into a 94L and am not sure if my wiring harness hass the fuel pump controller. I need to know if it is necessary to run the car, if not what are the side effects? could someone also show me a pic of one so that i can be sure whether or not I have one?
Thanks, Micah

no not necessary, it will run without it.
side effects: might run rich in the lower ranges. |

The fuel pump controller is a small box, about the size of a deck of cards, physically located on the passenger side of the trunk behind the trunk liner, about 3" below the trunk lid.

I would highly recommend using the WRX fuel pump controller.
Without getting too technical, the computer won't be able to calculate and deliver the right amount of fuel your engine needs to run RIGHT! |

I need this information as well. Basically what it would cost new and if anyone has one laying around from a wreck.
Guess I'll call the dealer soon. Cam |

www.car-part.com www.copartfinder.com I would highly recommend against buying directly from the dealer. It will be atleast 200% more than the cost at a yard. 4subaru will almost undoubtedly have it, but it will probably be priced higher than the other places. -Jon |

Thanks for the information. Yeah, I didn't plan on buying it from the dealership, I just wanted to find out what they charged so I could get an idea of what a reasonable cost would be for it. Thanks again, Cam |

I'll gladly take a picture of it once I have mine in hand. However, since my donor car hasn't been located yet, I can't give you a picture.

Yes you need it...You will throw a check engine light if you don't have it...The controller talks to the ECU...I paid $120 for it from the local dealer...Its part of the WRX chassis harness and yes it bolts behind the passenger side trunk trim, in the hollow space...Its a little computer made by DENSO...

Just something else to think about. Someone with a v7 swap into a gc didn't use a fuel pump controller, it's also needed for that, and supposedly the car runs great, although there is a check engine light. I can't imagine it's something that an aftermarket ecu couldn't fix. Anyway, personally i'd get one, after all if your spending all the money on the swap, what's another 120 just to be sure and for peace of mind. Good luck.

I'd figure gas mileage might suffer a bit if you don't use it. .due to the fact that hard wired it would be at full blast all the time. Impezd~ |

Just as a little FYI, here is a list of the "little" things that I have purchased thus far:
WRX rotors, calipers, pads, and brackets $200.00 AWD hubs $135.00 RS hood $185.94 RS front axles (pair) $90.00 RS rear axles, 05/2000+ (pair) $90.00 pedal assm. (with clutch master cyl.) $125.00 WRX wagon front control arms $130.00 Stock turbo-back exhaust $150.00 CM oil filter (25-282) $95.00 Steering rack bushings $24.00 The drivetrain isn't even here yet so I'm sure more will be added... -Jon |
