Default Flat tire question...

The manual says an Auto WRX shouold be switched to FWD when using a spare. It doesnt specify if it matters w hether the doughnut is on the front or rear of the car...

also, when my dad picked up my car for me, the dealer told him the same but i have a 5MT, nothing in the manual about this...does any one know?

if i cant get answers obviously ill call a dealership..

thanks

VJ

Only the Automatic can be towed following the instructions in the book.

A 5 speed Subaru MUST be flat-bedded.

If a dealer was saying that a 5sp can be towed with 2 wheels on the ground... run away from them as fast as you can.... run Forrest! Run!

The donut should be on the front of an auto wrx, and you should pull the fwd fuse.

A 5MT wrx can not be shifted out of AWD - you'll always have a viscous center diff and a viscous rear diff. You should still put the donut on the front, but it's best to simply not drive on the spare tire.

OOps I forgot that part.

Yes, while it would be better to have flat tires always in the front, on the side of the highway, the scissor jack supplied cannot get both wheels into the air because of the long travel of the WRX struts, thus negating the opportuntity to switch wheels in a timely manner.

An aftermarket suspension will probably be stiff enough that the scissor jack in the location under the sill will get both the front and rear tires far enough off the ground that they can both be changed... and THEN you can swap the wheels using the donut in the front. But on the stock suspension, it's not a viable solution.

The donut can go on any wheel, just get that flat fixed asap.

The donut is the SAME circumfrence as a stock tire and would not cause any issues. Just follow what it says on the donut and the manual not to exceed certain speeds while it's on.
