Default Anyone have difficulty with warm engine starts?

When I start my car and it's cold no problem, it fires right up. If the car sits for a few hours and then start it up it's fine. But if I park the car for 10 minutes and then start it, it will start up but then if feels like the engine is going to stall out for a few seconds and then it holds around 500 rpms. Anyone else notice this?

Sounds like it's fatal. I'd be glad to trade you my 2002 WRX (only 36,000 miles) for your STi - free and clear. Just so you don't have to worry about those hard starting issues anymore. I know it's generous on my part, but I like helping those less fortunate than myself. I guess I'm a bit of a philanthropist at heart.

Glad I could help,

yes, the same happens to me. in fact this past weekend, i started the car, it stuttered then stalled. when i fired it up again, it stuttered then went to idle after i gave it a little bit of gas. it really worried me, but i'm glad i'm not the only one this happens to.

One or two times from heat soak my car has been difficult to start when hot. The WRX has had problems with misfire due to the fuel rails getting too hot near #3. I think the STi layout is different but if the temps are high and you've been running hard it may happen.

Sounds very logical to me. I noticed the same thing with mine, but its never actually stalled out or had a problem starting. The idle just seemed kinda low and choppy, but cleared out with a quick rev. I don't foresee any mechanical problems associated with it though.

..I noticed the same thing myself this week.....just didn't have a chance to write about it.

Anyone with the re-flash getting this (out of curiosity)...Subaru may fix more than 1 problem at a time with the reflash...

I don't think a reflash will fix this symptom. I would not call it a problem.

This has also happened to me a few times in the past week. I usually let the car idle for a minute or two before shutting it off in lieu of a turbo timer. Also, I've been running the same gas since day one and this problem just started as I approached 4000 miles.

This happens to my OBS as well. For me, it doesn't matter WHEN I start the car, it is HOW. If I let off the starter too soon, I get a super rough idle that I can eliminate with a restart or good helping of gas. I have no clue what causes this as no other car I have driven has ever done this.

So no help here, just similar exp. in a non turbo.

My bike does the same exact thing when I start it when its hot. I would not worry, its not a problem. My DSM did the same thing too...

Weird, I had the same problem about 5 or 6 times with my WRX when it was new and it went away and never had the problem again.

You might try letting the fuel pump run a few seconds, then move the key to the start position--seems to help on a hot re-start with the WRX.
