Question Utec tunning!! I need Help!

I am having problems with my Stage 4. I am getting a lot of Knock. I have tried trimming my timing but that doesn't seem to help. I am new at doing this and I don't want a $15,000 problem. So any help would be appreciated.

Hmm maybe your plugs are bad?

5120 102 +13.8 90 +21.0 rich 00000
5241 102 +13.8 80 +13.0 rich 00002

At those rpms at 18psi im running around 23 degrees of advance and the car runs fine.... at only 13.8psi im running around 25 degrees advance and still no knock. Maybe some bad fuel or something? how long has it been since you had your plugs changed? what kind of fuel are you using?

I am using 91 at my high level of 5500 feet. I haven't changed my plugs, I am running on stock plugs.

You may want to try some NGK BKR7 ( I think thats the model ). They are one step colder than stock and are copper instead of platinum or iridium, which means that they will not last long, but are less than $2 each. Not a bad idea when you are tuning. If you have your tune too rich and foul the plugs, you are only out $7 or $8 dollars instead of $30 - $100 for the fancy plugs. I've heard that some tuners prefer the cheap copper plugs because they are cheap and conduct better than any others. Just replace them every other oil change. My car seems to run better with them too. I had a Vishnu tuned Unichip and one step colder platinum plugs ( .29 gap ) and would periodically get misfire CEL's. Since I replaced the plugs with copper ( .28 gap ), I don't get the CEL. Maybe it was the .01 difference in gaps. Who knows. Just a thought.

mixup52,

You have many knock events happening under "ecu" values so you will need to map down to the lower load sites. This map really only works well on 93 octane and you have 91.

My recommendation would be to ditch this map in favor of the STG4FMI (I know you don't have the FMI) but this map uses less ignition advance so it works well with lower octane and it's tuned into the lower load sites. This is the map we use to start all STG4 dyno tuning sessions.

This map will be a much better starting point for you but you may have to lean it out and add timing for your altitude.
