Default Looking for possible Project Spiked Collar

Hey guys, an idea caught my interest a while ago for a possible cheaper project car, and that would be to buy an old impreza and swap in a WRX engine...of course I'm finding that there is a wealth of information on the swap into a 2.5 RS. What about the L/LX models? What are the differences between them? If I picked up a slightly damaged 94 Impreza L for 2500, would it be possible to do the swap and make it run well for under 8 grand?

Things like source websites and price information would be very helpful, to add while I seach the nasioc site. Thanks a lot!

Ill give you an idea...

Got a 91 legacy lsi in good (dirty, dented) shape for 700.
Got a 91 turbo legacy for 1000 with a bad transmission.
Add MBC and Intercooler, perform some maintanance (seals and such) and for less than 3k you have quite a fast car.

Im using the LSI as a daily driver, and installing the engine from the turbo into my Legacy wagon, but you get the point.

94 L for $2500, w/ damage? That's alotta money.
For $8k you can do alot. for about that you can get a JDM front clip, of an older WRX w/ TD05 turbo (more hp)., get 4pot front and 2pot rear brakes, all installed and tuned, and prolly with some upgrades added in there as well, for that price. BUT that all depends on where you go to get it installed. An older JDM WRX front clip and a USDM WRX complete engine/tranny etc, are about the same price. I think the USDM wrx's I see for sell are too much., but that is my opinion. I just base stuff off of prices I have seen an avg of. If my brain would work right now I could send you to some places that I have links to, for cheap prices on stuff. BUT I am not on my home PC so I can't think of them right off hand. I will post more later for ya.
