Default Engine managment for an 04 WRX (please help)

I currently have a Utec which I can at this point do without. I had it professionally tuned and it is still knocking. I know that it is a user tunable ECU and to get rid of knock I need to tune it out.

I basically bought the wrong product. I want a set it and forget it type of engine managment for my 04 but I do not know what is out there. I have a TXS stage 2 with up-pipe & Utec.

Does anyone know of any engine managment product that is set it and forget it? I basically dont want to knock and I was told that my Utec is aggresivly tuned so I will get knock due to boost, weather, gas etc. I also know that you guys would like to see a log but I have not gotten around to learning how to tune the Utec myself, basically i do not have the time with work and all.

I am in the process of getting gauges also.

Basically I like the Utec but see no point in having something I will not use on a reg basis. I want to add mods and I know a reflash system I will have to re-flash everytime I add mods. Does anyone know if the Unichip will work in my 04 WRX?

Like I said I have a stage 2 with up-pipe and I am thinking about a diff engine managment tool and or a MBC plus a bigger top mount for my car. As for engine managment I was told about Cobb and ECUtek for the 04....

Can someone please give me some guidance and imput I would appreciate it.

thanks

Jay

You should consider conforming your car to one of the configurations described at http://www.cobbtuning.com/wrx/accessecu.html. This has two distinct advantages for you:
  • You won't have to retune your car for changes in weather or gasoline quality.
  • You won't have to make decisions on which new component to buy for your next upgrade. Instead, you choose a new configuration from that page, collect the specified new pieces and install them as a group while your ECU is reflashed to support them.
The result is a tune designed exactly for your equipment at a resonalble cost and without requiring that you become an expert on anything except driving.

the only worry or problem I have about Cobb and Vishnu ECU's is that if you get knock you are not told or warned in any way. The CEL does not flash so at any point in driving your car you can be doing major damage to the engine from what I have been told.

The CEL will flash to indicate severe misfire. A stock engine with the stock ECU won't flash for knock, either. Nobody gives this a second thought. A reflashed ECU from a knowledgeable tuner that's been tested under varying conditions with numerous vehicles equipped with the same bolt-on configuration should not give you pause for concern either. If it does, you might as well just hang it up right now since there's no safer alternative.

I have a Utec in my car which was tuned professionally but still knocks. I want an engine management tool that will not have to be messed with every other day. I will have my car tuned and dyno'd again next week sometime since it is owed to me. If the knock continues I am going to look into different options but if everything looks good and I do not knock I will keep my Utec.

p.s. where do you live in CT?

The fact that a person that makes money from tuning (aka "professional tuner") obviously doesn't assure success. The fact that a piggyback ECU is easily modified obviously doesn't assure success.
