Default Rain

I'll chime in on this rain tire/STi in the wet thing. My experience
in the STi w/ the RE070's on very heavily puddled roads has
been nothing but amazing! The car is very resistant to
hydroplaning & has a solid & secure feel w/ the DCCD in auto.

I have experience on quite a few other ultra high performance
tires in the rain & rank the RE070's as one of the best! When
I first got the car I said I'd never replace the stock tires when
they wore out, but after seeing how great the car is in the rain
with them I may just change my mind! YMMV

How about compared to Bridgestone Pole Position S0-3's?

I'll second that. I was seriously impressed with the wet surface traction. BUT... I would be very curios to install the 070's onto a stock WRX and compare. I'm afraid that some what we feel as increadible grip is actually the Mechanical rear LSD and the SureTrac Front LSD tied through an electronically controlled awesome center diff. In other words the car can shift the power around so well that in a straight line it almost wouldn't matter what the tire was.

The only other Bridgestone's I've tried are the crappy RE92's
that came on my 99 RS. Tires that I have used:

Kumho Ecsta MX's & Victoracer's on my 94 RX-7
Kumho 712's on my 95 Eclipse GSX

I'm kinda biased toward Kumho because an acquaintance of
mine is the NA motorsports manager.

I still have both of the above , but don't drive them in the
rain (unless I get caught out).

Dunlop SP8000's on my old 90 Talon AWD
Dunlop SP4000's & Yokohama Avid's on my wife's old 2000 Millenia S

The reason I even posted is that my experience w/ the STi
in the rain has been so different from other people.

Oh, forgot to mention the Yokohama A028's that came stock
on the RX-7 & I know the Victoracers aren't meant to be
used in the rain.

I too have had excellent feedback in the rain with the REO70s. I was late for a meeting and "had" to keep the pace up in a pretty heavy downpoor. I was averaging 75-80mph with confidence. You can really feel the LSDs working especially when encountering puddles on only one side of the car. BTW, I keep my tire pressure religiously at 36f 30r.

I also have a A4 quattro so I am very familiar with awd and wet conditions.

Note: The highway I was on was pretty much clear of traffic.

Listen, I too have had great experiences in very heavy rainfall with these tires. But I have to say, I put the DCCD in manual and dial it in to the centre position. For some unknown reason to me, this gives me the best wet performance... better than when it's in auto.
