Default STi Body Conversion?

So many of us have spent far too much time and money (keep in mind that my finger is pointed at me ) doing all kinds of conversions to our cars trying to make them faster, stop quicker, corner better, get more traction...blah, blah, blah.

So then the Sti hits the streets and it's BAM one car that does it all for driving performance. I have one little problem...I need a wagon...so here's the question?

Can you put a WRX/TS Wagon body on a STi? What would/wouldn't work?

Thumbs up

I think it can be done, but it wouldn't be cheap.

You would need to compensate for the sedan's wider front track (unless you keep the sedan front end, which would look a little out of place with the wider fenders).

You'd have to replace most body parts rearward of the front doors since the sedan rear doors have a blister which continues into the rear quarter panel... the wagon does not have this.

I would also source some STi 7 wagon folding rear seats to make best use of the extra space.

Those are the MAIN things I can think of other than suspension spring rates, etc.

Interesting proposition though.

What I really want to do is take the body panels from a WRX wagon, or TS if putting on a front intercooler, and leaving the rest of the STi car the same.

So Mike, the wheels of the sedan are wider in the sedan than the wagon? Or did I misunderstand?

Good idea on the rear seat!

I'm not too worried about the spring rates, I like the rears a little extra stiff anyway.

Still thinking.

Do you think that's doable or would I need to change the frame?

You can't just put the wagon body panels on the STI chassis. It's a unibody, doesn't work like that.

That's what I was afraid of. So much for the wagon dream...for now!

Well you could swap the STI drivetrain into a wagon body. It would be a lot of work but could be done.

I'd like to swap just about everything else too besides the rivetrain...

Engine, brakes, suspension (although I could just drop my DMS suspension on).

What I really need is more time and money.

...but don't we all.
