I looked at www.subaru-parts.com and www.subaruparts.com .
One of the sites has the STi security system upgrade for about $160.00 and I looked at the installation instructions. I was wondering has anyone upgraded their keyless entry to this? Was it hard and do you have any tips? Also, can we add the rear trunk light to have trunk protection also? Thanks.

I have been considering this myself as the dealership wants around $500 for the alarm upgrade. Anyone done the install on even a standard WRX?

I had my dealership install my security system. they did it for about $285.00. I think it is worth having the dealer install it so your warranty with the part and installation is covered. If it fails they can't blame it on you for faulty installation. Just my thoughts.

I don't imagine this being a very difficult install and easy to screw up as I assume all the wiring is in place and it's just a plug and play job. I just looking to confirm this w/ a Subaru install document.

I plan to do it myself. The installation looks really easy. Just bolt in the brain behind the glovebox, the starter and horn relay under the dash and the horn under the hood. Plug them in. Replace dash parts. The wiring is already there. The parts are $156 from subaruparts.com.
If the car comes from the port with the security system installed, it costs only $230. The extra $75 seems worth it to me, but the prices mentioned for dealer install are insane. |

I actually had it included in the sales agreement when I bought the car, but I haven't had them install it yet (they didn't have any in stock when I picked the car up new).
My only concern is that in the past when I've had anything in the interior worked on at a Subaru dealer, I always get the car back with the interior panels scratched and chunked up along the edges. Then I have to go round and round with the dealer, "No, it wasn't like that before," and "Yes, you ARE going to fix it - it's supposed to be a new car".... I've actually been thinking about finding out which trim panels come off (I think www.scoobymods.com has it posted, at least for an '02-'03 WRX), and pulling them off myself. That way I know they were cared for properly! Okay, so I'm a tad anal about my cars ... but then again, they also last forever! Zen |

Great, I've had the glove off to install my driving lights wiring and it was very easy to get off. For $150.00 I'll be doing it myself.

My dealership just replied to my email and said that they will add it to the car for $200.00(parts/installed). I'm not going to mess with it myself for that price.
