Post 2002 WRX engine in 98-01 RS swap

So, now that the WRX is here doesn't that mean we can legally swap (for the street) a newer motor into an older car? Provided we keep all the cats, etc. This would be good news for those of us wary of the emissions issue, esp. in CA. Aside from cruising the junkyards for a newly wrecked car, is it possible to buy the whole engine new from Subaru? Any idea on the costs for this motor and would one have the same install "problems" as with the old EJ20T?

I am wondering if your can get an STi engine from Japan for the previous model. Either way the new engine and the install will make it so expensive that it is probably worth looking into a 1-2 years old WRX if you can wait that long.. or yet wait those two years and get a new WRX.
