* Its not WRX engine. Its out of a Liberty RS.

* Its an automatic. Expensive and complicated to convert to manual.

This engine was virtually identical to the first Impreza turbo engines fitted into UK cars from 94 on - the only difference was air/air intercooler rather than water, and 14psi boost instead of 12psi on the Liberty. It has the water/air intercooler, which is a dead giveaway. It also has hydraulic lifters (renowned for being a bit rattly!)

IMHO - You'd be better off looking for a different engine if you want to do an engine swap, unless you want an auto...Then it might be a good option for you.

Hope this helps.
Chris

wait, so is it hard to bolt on a EJ22 turbo from a 91-94 USDM Legacy into a manual trans? Most of the legacys are auto.

Why would it be hard to convert to a manual tranny? The subaru engines have allways been able to mate to BOTH autos and manual trannies. Its the BODY of the car that is a problem, but if you use the stock tranny in your legacy or impreza it should work fine.

However I might point out that this engine doesn't seem to have any of the accessories with it, and I don;t know if the ones off the old engine will bolt on. You also will be stuck trying to get the stock ECU to deal with the motor, which may or may not be difficult.

XT6: good point about the accessories. I think the seller said that there's no alternator, starter or power steering pump.

JC: i need a little more power.

To think of it, this might be a bad buy for the sake of ease to find parts and information.

There are lots of parts and info on the EJ20, probably more than there is for the EJ22 and EJ25. Your car would be damn fast if got that engine.

P.S. I saw you driving to the theatre on friday.

There is NO WAY that engine has 30k - 40k miles on it.... look at the rubber CV joint boots. They are destroyed.

That engine probably has 80k miles or more on it.

Buyer beware!

there are a lot better deals out there than this one. i found a bunch of people who import these engines to the US. i got a Liberty motor with the watercooled intercooler and i can keep my air temps to 50-80 degrees. I would not worry about the manuel to auto thing, just use your existing tranny. as for running it, deffinatly don't buy the ECU, they will want to much and then you will have to deal with the wiring. If you are going to go thought with this i would buy a Stand alone ECU, make sure that you get the downpipe and all the wiring plugs and sensors you can and the intake if possible. the alternater and the starter from you car will also work on the engine.
