Where to tap for power to guages?
The EGT and Oil presure gauges I bought (Autometer) require a ignition wire. Where did you guys tap to get this wire. I was thinking the radio ignition wire. I believe its the red one. Let me know what you think or your suggestion.

depending on where you mount them...
I just tapped the clock (since gauge pod removed it anyway) Im running Defi gauges.. so one tap powered all 3 gauges. Radio tap has more juice im sure.. but if you gonna remove the clock housing anyway.. might as well make it easy on yourself |

Isn't the clock wire an always-on power wire, not switched with the ignition?

yah, you dont wanna tap it to the clock wire. you should just
tap it to the fuse named rear window wiper if you have a sedan. its switched. |

its not a switch, just a fuse. just tap into it. its in the fuse box next to the steering column (left side and not the fuse box in the engine room).

Thanks thats what I wanted to know. Is there a fuse already there even though we don't have a rear windshield wiper or do I have to pull one of the spares?

Where did you guys hide the wires? Did you hide them behind the a-pillar? I'm new to the whole guage thing. My friend knows how to wire them, just not mount them. And also is the ignition wire really that hard to tap into? Any help would be cool, thanks.

yep, there is a fuse there even though we do not use that circuit. some of the aussie or jdm sedans have rear wipers so for production consistency and not needing to re-ppap the fuse holder (specifications-wise) they used the same layout. you can just stick a wire into one of the fuse's terminal and it'll work just fine. or, you can buy littlefuse "add a circuit" adapters and jump a wire that way. some really picky guys find the terminals above the fuse box and make a cleaner tap, but to me, it's not worth the hassle. LB2.5rs- what do you mean 'hide the wires?' if you are' planning to use a guage pod on the a-pillar, you will need to drill holes for the wires and run the wires 'inside' the a-pillars. |

Is there any way to do it without drilling holes in the a pillar?

well, that's going to be tough unless you find those a-pillar pods that does over the a-pillar..then you can use mounting tape instead. imo those are over priced for what they are and i just drilled a couple holes to mount my 2 guages using the autometer cups. $16-18 each. |
