Question I'm thinking about moving to Atlanta

I'm 22 years old and I hate living in the middle of nowhere in central Pennsylvania. I'm looking to relocate somewhere warm and southern, and I like the looks of Atlanta. It looks like the IT market is still decent in the area, and I think I would be able to find a job.

Does anyone have any suggestions on places to live for a young single guy. Suggestions about other cities are welcome too.

I guess I'm looking for pros and cons for the area and the southeast in general from some people who have lived there or around there.

Thanks In Advance,
Jared

TRAFFIC SUCKS GET OUT NOW

Seriously, it's awful so my suggestion is find a job then find the place you want to live and make sure it's within 1 mile of the job.

Depending on what you're lifestyle is there are really nice area's to live pretty much everywhere. If you want to live in town check out Midtown or Buckhead apt. (expensive). If you want to live outside of the perimeter (i-285) look around Marietta, Alpharetta or Gwinnett.

Just moved here about 6 weeks ago. Love it so far. Traffic does suck, so live close to work as told before. I live in Dunwoody which is just outside the north side of the loop.

Good luck--you won't miss the winter I'm sure (I moved from Detroit)

I had a good time when I visited Atlanta. Everybody seemed nice and friendly. Stayed at the Ritz Carlton in downtown. My only advice from the brief visit was dont walk alone at night downtown and dont let a whino talk you into going to the gentlemens club downtown..

Traffic DOES suck, but we do have a nice little Subaru community around here, and once you learn the back roads, its not sooo bad.....there are a lot of nice and different areas around as well....just like Keith(The Enemy) said

Thanks for all the replies. I'm really thinking hard about this and I want to get out of small-town PA in the worst way. I'm looking at Atlanta and also San Deigo. It looks like cost of living is a lot lower in Atlanta, but crime and traffic are a lot higher. The first thing I need is a job though, we'll see what happens and thanks again.

i'd think that the cost of living in atlanta is higher than a small town. dunno, saw that greenville, charlotte, jacksonville, etc. is cheaper than atlanta. don't know about penn. though. good luck. decatur may be the place for you .

greenville gets about a 9/10 on the boring scale, but you can hit the charlotte, asheville, and atlanta meets without putting too much seat time in. the south is a great place to be. and georgia's highways make me want to move further south....the cops are SO much more lenient.

Stay away from Greenwood, SC!

No Starbucks, no Olive Garden, no Best Buy or Circuit City, no Home Depot, no interstate access for 45-50 miles...

Stay away!

(Unless you like fast food restaurants and hotels, we have lots of those...)

Matt

EDIT: Oh, and a mall that has few shops and NOT what you would call a food court.... more like a Chik-fil-a and an oriental place with tables and chairs in the hallway.
