Question Can you make STI BOV whistle

Just bought 04 STI friday. I am new to Subaru's and need help with the BOV. Is there a way to make it whistle as a normal turbo car would. Has anyone made the upgrade.

you mean sidegrade right? Not really upgrade.

If you want to hear the BOV more you can install a new intake. I know the Blitz SUS lets you hear the BOV more. Other than that you could replace it with an aftermarket one.

Before you do that, understand that "lack of whistle" is entirely normal on your car. The BOV on the STi is not exceptionally loud, but functions perfectly.

There are aftermarket BOVs that will achieve the "whistle" you are looking for Bubb Rubb...

Check with TurboXS or Blitz.

(Hey Neek...since when does an intake change the way an exhaust part works??? )

The STi isn't a "normal" turbo car?

Exactly which factory turbo car whistles when completely stock? The only cars I ever hear whistle are n/a cars that have been turboed and have a big bov on it or turbo cars with aftermarket bovs.

I could be wrong, but I believe that the topic starter is referring to the whistling sound made by the turbo spooling.....the BOV makes more of a decompression type sound. So, I am going to go out on a limb an suggest that a BOV is not what this individual is looking for at all.

As you accelerate, and are shifting between gears, rev the engine as you shift. This will spool the turbo, and but cause the wastegate and BOV to release (like normal) but because you are holding/increasing revs while shifting, it will vent more air. Becasue you won't actually be accelrerating, your car will be quiet enough that you and others will be able to hear the "whooosh" sound you so desire.

Save your car the embarasment and yourself the money of adding a BOV just for attention. Instead of bad taste, people will just accuse you of being a bad driver.

P.S. Don't ask me how I figured this "whooosh" trick sound out.

Or you could just take out your silencer and get more spool sound and whoosh, there still will not be any hks whistle though.

Exclamation thanks for the help

I will try that in a little while. I also would like to know if anyone knows of an aftermarket ECU chip we can buy yet.

TurboXS (makers of the utec), Cobb Tuning (accessECU), and Vishnu (forgot the name of their reflash dohicky) are all working on products for the 04 STi. You can read up on their WRX based stuff on their respective websites.

Forget the whistling blow-off valve, unless you are trying to pick up teenage boys 'cause those are the only people clueless enough to be impressed.

Whistling BOVs are the trademark of poorly engineered aftermarket turbo installations on cars that were not engineered for the turbo in the first place. Real and normal turbo cars haven't whistled since around 1972 or so.

I vote for the green and orange hub caps!!! They will be at least as much of an upgrade as a whistling BOV
