Default utec closed loop worth the effort?

just installed turboxs stg 4 and im supprised that the vf30 doesnt come up to full boost until 3800-4000rpm. im using the stg 4 base map and i was thinking of writing a program for closed loop boost to use the boost gain feature. is it worth the time involved to do so, and does the boost gain help with spool up?

I definitely was not happy with how boost was when I tried using open-loop boost control on my Stage 4+TMIC setup. I never had lag THAT bad (full boost until 3800+ rpm), but boost was erratic, and changed day to day.

I changed to closed loop mode, and it's much more consistant. Is it perfect? No. But it's 10X more consistant than open-loop EVER was.

I have my gain set at 47 right now. I tried setting it as low as 45, but it didn't seem to help spool up. I never tried to go lower though (maybe I will give it a shot).

I definitely think full boost should be a lot sooner than 3800, I would guess I can get full boost at least 500 rpm sooner than that.

Writing a program? you mean enter a closed loop map?

Closed loop is very nice. I was able to get far more consistent boost than in open loop. It took like 10 minutes max.

BTW, I am running my boost gain at 42. I get a nice little spike to 17 lbs (stock turbo), and then the boost settles down to 15.5-16 lbs.

Wow!!.. running stage 4 huh??.. I'm half way there.. if i were at stage 4, i'd try and run at least 19psi closed loop and have max boost by 3300-3500.. you'll never learn if you never try editing your own map... especially having sti injectors and a higher flowing fuel pump.. me at stage 2, stock turbo spools at about 1700-1900 rpm.. hitting max boost by 2500 rpm all the way to redline.. i like it, but no more highend power.. i'll have to wait for that 20g or sr50 upgrade..
