Default What would cause a knocking engine?

I have found a complete 3.3 SVX engine that I can pick up for $300 that runs good but has a light knock. I'm thinking at that price it might be worth tearing down and rebuilding. Anyone guess what could be wrong? What would a rebuild kit cost for this engine and where would I find one? Can you get aftermarket pistons (JE, Pauter, etc.) for this motor?

if it is just slight constant knocking, its prolly warn rod bearings. Easy fix that may or may not fix the prob

What octane are you running in it. If you are not run 91,92,93 what ever your state has.

Maybe replace the plugs.

Are you talking about spark knock (knock/ping under load) or a knocking sound at idle?
