Default STi intake question/debate(tuners welcome)...

I have a brand new TurboXS intake sitting here for my STi. I am kinda reluctant about installing it because of mixed information on performance gains. Some people say they see gains and other people say performance suffers. Anyone have some dyno numbers to prove the power loss/gain? What intake brand? I have a full turbo-back Invidia system on the way, so would the intake benefit with the exhaust combination? Just a little confused on intakes cause you hear tuners claiming power gains and you get other people claiming power losses. What is the final word?

Well, I haven't seen a performance drop of any kind with it, but I also installed it along with the TXS FMIC. All I feel are gains and no CEL.

Big time power losses. Oh and BTW I would be glad to buy that intake from you for half of what you paid for it just so you don't ruin your nice new car

Seriously, I don't really think you will see any loss. But the gains may be minimal and it will depend on what other mods you have done. If you already paid the money, I would say go for it. It isn't impossible to swap back the original intake or anything. And then you can let your own personal butt dyno decide. If you really don't want it and need to get some money for it fast then PM me

Well, here is my input. I decided what the heck, it only takes about 15 min to swap. I installed everything, reset the ECU and went out for a test run or 2. Its noticeably louder, you can hear large amounts of air being sucked in. No CEL. I did not notice a decrease nor increase in power. About the only difference I notice is sound, oh well.

A pic of the intake...

Well, if you can wait till 8/31, I will have dyno results from my bone stock STi making 245 AWHP and what difference my CAI and TBE made.

BTW - modified Injen with larger 8" K&N and BPM TwisterIII.

Go to the weather channel and check for yourself!

So in otherwords: YES - it was HOT!

Plus 1200ft in elevation doesnt help either.

Come on, if you've been to a dyno, you should know that you can't compare one dyno's #'s to another! Within 10WHP of each other is pretty close.

You are so correct. The only way you can see if a mod is really making power is to get a baseline on a certain dyno. Then return to that same dyno after modifications. Otherwise its a waste of time and money.

You could very easily make 250whp on one dyno,.then drive across town and make 270whp on a different dyno.

bottom line stay with intakes with 65 milimeter (stock dia.) around the MAF sensor, such as the new APS 65mil red intake.
