Default 2004 Sti Wheel Bearing Issue?

After my thrid alignment in two weeks on an 04 Sti I still have a slightly offcenter steering wheel which changes position depending on what type of corner was just taken, I guess you could classify this as a wandering wheel, the car tracks straight and true..:

hard right corner = steering wheel offcenter to the left.

hard left corner = steering wheel offcenter to the right.

My question is could this be a symptom of a bad wheel bearing, I noted another post on the forum for an 04 Sti which had the wheel bearings replaced at 1200 miles... I've got 2200 miles, dealer seems to think it was just an alignment issue...

Any suggestions would be appreciated....

I believe others have been referring to this as "memory steer". Some were experiencing this after installing aftermarket wheels/tires (as have I). I'm sure a search with a keyword(s) of "memory steer" should pull up something. Hope this helps.

It's the soft stock steering rack bushings. A set of poly bushings will take care of that problem. Next time you have your car on the alignment rack, have someone turn the steering wheel, and see how much the stock bushings compress, and then stay compressed.

My WRX had the same problem.

did your alignment? Was it Subaru? What did you tell them to get them to cover it under warranty?

Subaru covered it once under warranty and called it a day... even though it did not fix the problem. I ended up having to have the steering rack bushings replaced and another alignment performed.. costing me like $200 out of pocket... this did fix the issue but the dealer (Natick, MA) has zero understanding of the steering rack bushing issue....

The replacement bushings were from www.oakos.com and made by Noltec.. only $26. I went to an independent garage to have them installed, so your looking at 1 hour labor charge $50-$90 depending on where you go, you then need a 4 wheel alighnment which I eventually had performed by a Subaru dealership which had their own alignment rack.
