I was wondering if an aftermarket air intake has anything to do with a subaru burning oil?

What if it was one of those really cheap intakes with a no-name foam filter on it? Those filters are often really poor and let particulate debris through that they shouldn't. They also come apart little by little sometimes.

Maybe I don't quite understand the way the head works (since I've never taken a Subaru head apart to look at it), but if you got small particles of dirt in the intake, couldn't some of them get stuck on the valve stems and slowly abrade at the valve guides?
