Default Just finished installing Link Wire-in- HELP

For some reason my Laptop will not see the link. I have the key on and I verified the link was getting power.
I checked to make sure I had the correct com port and tried 2400 and 9600 baud
Any ideas? All wiring appears correct and it primes the fuel pump when I turn the key to on.
I also tried starting it and it did not start, I assume because there is no map on the link yet.

I'm gunna try another laptop and another serial cable tonight.
I'm not sure if my cable is a serial cable or not. It looks like a serial cable, but it might be pinned differently.
The requirements for it are just that it has power and the serial link is plugged in, right? It should see it if those are met? Am I missing anything else?

what OS system are you running? on my laptop i had a serial port and was running windows xp and i couldnt connect, then i reinstalled windows 98 and it connected no problems, check and see if there are com port errors, or if you have something else trying to use that same port so they are conflicting, thats all i can think of.

It's windows 98. I do Microsoft Helpdesk for a living, so I'm fairly confident that everything is configured correctly on the laptop. Unforutnately I can't find my loopback plugs right now to test the port. This laptop only has windows 98 and the PClink software on it. Nothing else. Thanks for the suggestions though, keep them coming. Also, am I correct tha tthe link just needs power and ground to connect via serial link?

have you tried another serial cable? I know hndatch627 was having a problem connecting to my link because of his serial cable.

That's the plan for this weekend. If it still doesn't work I'll go from there. I was too tired after soldering 40+ wires last night and pushing the car out my driveway into a parking spot afterwards to screwwith it too much at 1am.

Checked the pins on my cable last night. I dont know what this cable is, but it's not a serial cable. I think it will work fine once i get a serial cable. Thanks guys.
