Where do you place a floor jack under the car?

Just curious. I have a floor jack, and I was just wondering where I should place it under the car as to not hurt anything. This comes with having another set of rims now. [Should I use jackstands as well?]

Pictures or URLS tell me how this can be dont safely without hurting anything would be ideal.

For the rear you can use the rear pumpkin. I put on a protector but you can still use it as a jacking point. I usually put a block of wood in the cup then though:

For the front there is a plate just behind the oil pan it looks like this w/ out those studs and nuts sticking out of it:

you can put a jack on that.

Hockey puck is the best to use

PS I always use jack stands too under the subframe somewhere.

Are the jackstands supported on teh control arms.. or where. i just cant tell.

Sorry for the newb questions. I am just trying to do it right the first time. any pics of places to put the jacstands would be great. Is it better to do one side at a time, or front/back at once.

Read your owners manual. If you are just looking to change tires and whatnot, there is a Jack point under the side skirt just behind the front tire. If you use this point with a floor jack you can get both tires on one side off at a time.

Use the manual's jackpoints for your jackstands, and use the pictured areas for your floor jack.

Remember to jack the car up, then put your stands in. And do the reverse to get them out.

Dont leave the jack under the differential, it puts stress on the bushings. I also dont think the jack needs to be left under the jack plate in the front, better to have two points of contact at opposite sides than three in line.

I dont use the jack points for jack stands. The rear subframe to body mount for the rear and the rear A arm mount point in the front should be stronger and more stable, plus you reduce the chance of scratches visible from the side of the car.

I know this is a great explaination.... for some people.

I, however, am a visual person. These word mean almost nothing to me as I have not had a car before worth tinkering with.

All I know is I need to change tires every one in a while. I need good jack points for a floor jack.

Please keep all instruction and examples easy enough for a elementary school child to understand.

Complex words are great... if I had experience with it previously.

If you look at the two pivot points for the suspension in the front of the car you will see the rear connects to a round metal part with two bolts holding it to the frame. One large bolt holds the suspension to this round part through a big rubber part in the middle.

In the rear underneath the car in front of the wheels you will see a mounting bracket with 3+ bolts, above the bracket will be where the subframe connects to the frame.

Also, for normal jacks you should take a 2x4 and slice a line down the middle that is 1/3 inch wide. This will fit on the seam under the car at the jack points on each corner. This is also good for jack stands if you dont want to use the spots I talk about.
