Default Wow Rev limiter!!

Well since breakin was completed I have hit the rev limiter in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. This car is sneeky to redline because there is really no noticable drop in torq or acceleration. You really have to pay attention to the tach but then you are moving so fast you cant take your eyes off the road.
I dont plan to make it a habit but is it harmful to hit the limiter once in awhile? It seems to kick in at 7200 and I would think this engin is easily good for more like 8k. Give me some input please.

The whole point of the rev limiter is to keep you from breaking something....

just wait till you get exhaust and intake (if you do). the rev limiter comes even faster, and is harder to feel it coming. they need to make the shift light buzzer louder. any ideas on how to do that?

I never hear the damn shift buzzer. If i had a radio I would wire it into the sound system...short of that the only thing I can think of is finding the buzzer and making it louder...ie an amp, and bigger speaker.

the us wrx/sti is not safe for 8k redline, not to mention that the tranny probably won't take it. if you were to take jdm heads and put it on a us wrx, then you might be able to do 8.3k. talked to the guys at turboxs, the stock heads can't handle more revs, thats why you can't change the redline on a utec!

I set my rev buzzer at 5800 rpm to even give me enough time to react. I guess having a radar detector helps to train you to hear and see beeps and red lights when you have the music up loud. I may not hear it, but I almost always see it.

Do you really think so? With the exception of 1st gear, I feel like the power just dissapears after about 6k rpms.

Extending the torque curve out a bit longer is one of the biggest things I would like to change about my STi.

Do the 2002 WRX's (non-STi) have a rev limiter? If so, what is it set at? I think I may have hit it the other day...does it just cut the fuel or what?

Thanks,

Yea just sorta cuts for a second wakes you up.My service manager said no harm at all from hitting the limiter. He is one of the owners of the dealership.

Yes, they have a limiter. I've hit it in my brother's wagon. It's somewhere near 7250 but that may not be the exact RPM it stops at.

STi does pull strong to redline in every gear, even 5th. I haven't noticed much of a drop so far and have hit the limiter a few times without meaning to.
