Default wow the sti is a blast to drive!

ive driven it before but never really had a chance to open her up. i have the sti for the next day or two to drive around, since im still waiting for a white one to arrive. i may have to make my way up to whistler.

sticks to the road well, pulls like a mofo and is easier to drive than the M. one thing i dont like is the short gears. to get to 100km/h u have to go to 3rd gear. too much shifting involved.

cany wait to slap a turbo back exhaust in this thing.

well im gonna go out and drive it some more.

The best shift point for any race oriented car is just before or at redline. Some people will tell you to shift after you reach the peak of maximum horsepower but that is nuts. Remember where you shift determines where you'll be rpm-wise at in your next gear.

Actually the best shift points for the STi are redline at first, and 6500 for the rest.

People tend to forget that just because you have 6 gears, doesn't mean you have to go thru all of them sequentially. Do you floor the gas all the time? Of course not. It is actually quite comfortable to mash thru the gas in 1st to ~6000 and shift to 3rd. The car could still probably outrun a Mustang GT 0-80 from the line doing this. I often go 1-3-5 or 1-2-4, or even 1-2-3-6 from a light and onto the freeway.

The gearing is one of the best features. Shifting is so effortless that it goes nearly un-noticed. You can short-shift every gear from a stop and still be hauling ass! Sometimes I never get past 4th gear going to work. There always seems to be enough torque with the exception of being in 6th gear @ 50 mph. The STi only sees 6th gear on Interstate highways and at that speed even 6th gear is very usable for passing and manuvers.
The gearing always keeps you in a useful power band on daily drives and is just a throttle blip away from being a squeeling pig on fire.
