Default Help..My won't stay running...

Well I popped my stock motor about 4 months ago. I bought a long block & collected the parts & changes that I wanted to make, now I pulled an all nighter to get it going. All went very well, looks great no probs. So when I start it, It fires very normal like, Then shuts off as if I turned off the key? It will start with every tun of the key Then shut off just as fast. I swaped coilpacks, checked fuel pressure, checked all plug connectors, checked fuses. I am stumped, so I come to the knowledge pool in search of a possible solution. Help me out Iam so close to being back on the road....
Thanks, Vince...(707) 280-8090

it sounds like fuel related to me. maybe fuel pump controller? pump? can you monitor fuel pressure all the way to the point it dies? hard to diagnose your situation over the internet

You are right about the difficulty to trouble shoot from here. How can i check if the injectors are recieving pulse to operate? I have fuel pressure constant at 40Lbs. I have swapped out the injectors In hopes that something would change, No luck. When I remove the injectors there are lots of fuel behind them. It seems that maybe The injectors are not releasing the fuel.Or opening . Hmmm how could I test this. Thanks, vince..

Post-MAF air leak.

Check all your hose connections - especially the big ones... That's exactly what'll happen if you have a large intake leak after the MAF sensor.

How long after starting does the car shut off?

If you keep the throttle open, will the car stay running?

From the moment that the key is turned, the car fires up. Then the RPMs climb to somewhere under 2000,Then she dies. No matter how much throtle you give it. The logical thing that I can come up with is that a sensor is giving the ECU a reason to shut things down, Kinda like a safety switch. Cam senor,or MAF Sensor.HMMM? anyother ones that would do that?

Do you have an OBD-2 scanner or access to one? You should link up and see if you have any MIL codes.

Yeah I have a scanner it doesn't show any codes. however the one that i have is very limited on what info it will give you. Say I am running a uni-chip tuned by shiv to run MRT CAI, m2 turboback,M2TMIC,Sti injectors, perrin fuel rails. When I replaced my long block I switched to APS R/t spec. which uses a FMIC this seems to be the only serios change. Couyld this be caused by the changes to the bolt on package. & not changing the tune.I need Engine mgmnt that i can tune however without the car even staying started its pretty tuff to tune.

Yeah, I checked the IC pipes, Everything is so right. It is just very frustrating. I think it could be just the sesitivity of the ECU. I'm gonna call cobb on monday & see about the access ECU reflash. (all eggs going into one basket)& hope that is the problem.

Here is something that maybe it. I went to remove the MAF sensor with the harness still attached. Car was off & key was out. When i started to remove the screw it sparked & the fuel pump sputtered, then the gauges read low fuel & the low fuel indicator light came on. Does this mean that the MAF sensor is shorting out?

i think this is kinda like replumbing your bathroom so the faucet flushed the commode!

Try unplugging the MAF and start the car. it will throw a MIL/CEL but atleast you will know the problem. also take some brake cleaner and hose the unplugged MAF out.

I'll try cleaning the MAF. When i unplug the sensor the car just cranks & will not fire at all.

well if the car won't even run with the maf unplugged you have bigger problems than a dirty maf. i agree it sounds like a major post maf leak. do you have a bov? 100%atmospheric? maybe you forgot the plug there? dunno just an idea.

Well. inorder to eliminate the FMIC piping,I installed the stock TMIC & BOV & hoses. No change. Motor starts comes up to about 2kRPM then off. No strage noises, smells,or anything.Just like i turned the key off.

Well everyone She's Alive! MMMM Me so happy. I called Cobb this morning, they agreed with the thought of an air leak. So the only place left to check was the intake manifold gaskets. So I picked some up Today pulled off the intake & replaced both sets, While I was there I removed the butterflies from The TGVs. The car is ideling up to temp right now. However I'm reading A cel p1094. Time to figure that one out. Thanks for all the help it was great to be able to step away from that drama & peck at this key board with you peeps. Thanks a whole lot... Vince..
