Default Winter wheels test fit...

I know it's a bit early (being only August and all), but I decided to test fit my winter wheels/tires after washing my car this afternoon. Since I'll be leaving for Northwest PA for several months at the end of September, I'll have to put these on soon as I don't want to lug two sets of wheels/tires there (the car is being shipped).

I also wanted to make sure that the wheels fit properly, and that the wheel weights didn't get in the way of the front calipers. The wheels are bronze Rota SDRs (17x7.5" +48mm), and the tires are Dunlop Winter Sport M2s (225/45/17). The fit is perfect. Here are some pictures;

Be carefull in that white stuff !!
Are those Dunlops studdable? How pricey are they?
Did you drive on them much? How noisy are they ? I had the studded Hakkas on my WRX, and they were pretty loud. Not just the sound of the studs, but the actual tire noise was a little bothersome. Grip was fantastic on snow or Ice!
Your car looks GREAT !!

Thanks for the compliments.

Jerry C: I purchased the tires for $139/ea from TireRack.com. I doubt that they are studdable... The Dunlops are an H-rated tire (130 mph), and I have read positive reviews on them. The dry/wet grip is supposed to be pretty good, yet they still have the severe snow use rating. I haven't driven on them yet (I only put the wheels on one side), so I don't know how loud they are. I'll let you know in late September, though.

Looks like the STi "pink" lowering springs, Blitz exhaust, and 18x8" Prodrive GC-010 will have to wait until I come back next summer...

Those ROTA's look pretty good, especially for the price. Did you happen to weigh them?

Hey Creo, nice setup. That is the exact winter setup I am going with. I just haven't made up my mind on the color of the wheels yet. So those are bronze? In the pic they look anthracite or something. I like them. Originally I was not considering that color but now I might. You just made my decision harder.

Those wheels do look almost gunmetal gray. I really like the way they look on the silver car. Is it the photos?, and do they have a brnz. hue when you see them up close and personal??

I've noticed that when it's darker out, they do turn into more of a gunmetal color (I took the picture at ~8pm). However, they do have a bronze hue. My best description is that they are a combination between the steel grey (gunmetal) and gold. Here's a picture inside my garage (flash on);

You can compare the color to the rear Brembo caliper, and the pink strut. I also have the bronze center caps from subydude.com (~$35 extra). You get black "Rota" ones standard.

Zoso: I didn't weigh them, but from other threads they weigh ~16.5 lbs.

Thanks for the pictures and information. That is the exact same setup I'm getting for my car too. Just ordered the SDR's this week from Suby Dude since they were on special. I'll be ordering the same tires soon too. I was very impressed in how the tires did on my wifes A4 Quattro last winter.

Thanks Reza! I'm planning on bringing my car into Jack on Friday, to have the detonation issue and my alignment looked at (the car is pulling left slightly on straight/level roads). I'll stop by your office if I have time.

Nice rims! I'll have to check those out, especially if they do come in a gunmetal...

As to tires I switched off Dunlops and went to Blizzaks, and found slightly better ice-grip, but less deep-snow bite. Here we get a lot of black ice, so I was happy with the switch.
