2002 WRX Wagon

Cool My "Test Drive":-)

I was picking up my 02 WRX Wagon from Service and a salesman was moving a black STi into the garage for the night. I have been talking/dreaming with him about trading my wagon in on one and he asked me if I wanted to drive it into the garage (they are not giving test drives, unless you are for sure going to buy the car you test drive).

I was blocking the front entrance, so this meant that I would get to drive it around the building, into the rear door and back up to the front Service desk.

I grinned from ear to ear and said Yeah!

I only had a few minutes, so I couldn't sit and admire, so I tested the clutch, shifter and gas pedal; Very different feeling clutch and very light feeling gas pedal; put it in First and had a little trouble getting it to move forward, so I played with the clutch and gas pedal a little, got a feel for it and let out the clutch. The revs were not very high, but the car TOOK off and I was like, Oh Ma God!

I eased it around the building and into the garage and up to the front, amazed and just grinning. It really felt like the car gets off the line right away, without having to spool up (of course, my WRX needs to get up to at least 2500 RPM before it takes off).

It is probably the most time I will spend in an STi seat- about 300 feet, until next year when they are not so new and prized, before I will be able to get a test drive in one, and I will certainly try.

If you ever get the opportunity to visit the DC/VA area you should let me know. I've got a navigators seat with your name on it.
