Default Was the Ford RS200 a UK only car?

random queries online brought me to a dealer in the U.K. with a car I had never seen before, The Ford RS200, based on the Escort Cosworth.
2.1 liter , 4-wheel drive turbo. I've seen the Escort Cosworth many times, but this thing looks awesome!

Any in the US, or is this a case of the US having the Rustang as the best thing Ford produced?

I think it was a UK only car. It was produced for (I believe) Group B rally, there were only 200 ever produced (hence the name RS200) and I believe they have the fastest 0-60 time ever, something like 2.8 seconds.

Reminds me of a Scirocco or a Corrado that mated with a Porsche 956

With that 0-60 time, the looks, the handling, etc, I'd buy a Ford!

There were only 124 RS200 evolutions built in 1986......They were produced to compete in the world rally competition of the day. They were soon banned because they were too fast and therefore dangerous for the races....

The Ford/Cosworth engine was rated at 600 hp, and they would go from 0-60 in 2 seconds.....

I know where the last undriven example is for sale, for $135,000

That's logical, but I understand they only made 124 once they were banned....

I think they had to make 200 for homologation (sp?) purposes. They werent banned from the street, but rather Group B was disbanded and power limitations were set for WRC after that.

straight from Guiness:
Quote:
The fasteds road-tested acceleration recorded is 0-60 moh in 3.07 seconds by a Ford RS200 Evolution, driven by Graham Hathaway (UK) at the Millbrook Proving Ground, Bedfordshire, UK, on May 25, 1994. They were developed in the 1980s to compete in the high-performance Group B Rally Competition. Although most RS200s were equipped with turbocharged 109.8 CI engines, the Evolution models had a 128.1 CI powerplant, capable of an incredible 650 hp.

They sold for around $80,000 new.

why would it just top out at 140?
It would be nice if they just stuck like an OD in there, then it would do like 210 or so

Gearing, you cant accelerate that fast and have a real high top speed. You have to choose one or the other.

that is where OD comes in handy. Pop that baby in the OD, and just watch the speedo go around for another rotation
