Question DIY fog lights and security?

Does anyone have any advice for a newb like me that wants to install a set of fog lights and an aftermarket security system on his first car (04 TS)?

What resources should i be looking at? any caveats? Anyone want to share their experiences?

From what i gather (having done neither), the fog lights shouldn't be too hard. Check scoobymods.com for an install i think. As far as the alarm goes, much of the usefullness/effectiveness depends on the quality of install. so on that part, idk. perhaps a store install? or have a friend who has done it before help out?

Default legality of fogs

Depending on where you live, the local law may require fogs to function only when the low beams are on, and must be switched off when high beams are on.

If you choose to get oem fogs, then the provided wiring & harness will automatically take care of that.

If you choose aftermarket ones, they should come with a general instruction, but you may need to splice the original wiring in your TS to get it to work correctly. Another possible complication is that if the aftermarket fogs come with a circuit that is not compatible with Subaru's grounding system. Afaik, you can get any aftermarket fogs if you intend to wire them independently from the low & high beams (i.e. none of that "on only when lows are on, off when highs are on" legal requirement), but you might run into problems otherwise.

Regarding DIY alarm instalation, aside from knowing the correct wiring of your car, it's also a good thing to know how to remove interior trims for routing wires & hiding some of the consoles. You can get all those info from the factory service manual (not that small user's manual booklet that came with the car).

If the search engine in this forum happens to be running, you might also try to search for keywords such as "fog wiring", "security system", etc., or just browse the "electrical & lighting" as well as the "security" forums.

Good luck
