Question Brake Noises and Excessive Squealing?

I read a few treads on this, My car usually squeals in reverse but now I hear the low squeal when braking softly only while in forward motion. It sounds anoying kind of loke a school bus comng to a stop. You guys sure this is normal? I pulled my owners manuel out and looked at ever page on braking/ brakes and there is nothing that says this is normal. I even noticed a comment that says beware of sounds from brakes (Reffering to wear warning). What page is it on that it verifies brake squealing as normal?

Thanks

Unfortunately most of what you are hearing is normal for the Brembo brakes. They are nothing like your typical disc brake setup. Take a look at your rotors to make sure you are not cutting grooves in them. If they are smooth the noise is pretty part of the package. It is possible from time to time that you may pick up small pebbles in the calipers and that can cause excessive noise. Bottom line is high performance brakes are noisey.

I'm coming out of and 02 WRX with a full Wilwood kit. So, I sorta have a head start on some of the brake issues on the STi. Brakes like this will squeal worse when there's a lot of dust on the discs/pads. If you wash the car and wash the wheels real well, it should decrease the squealing. These Brembos are quiet compared to the Wilwood kit.....I had LOUD grinding/whirring under really hard braking and my car squealed like a garbage truck when rolling to a stop.....all normal for the Wilwood kit. So, the fact that the Brembos dust and squeal a LITTLE bit is normal, I assure you. HP brakes are not like regular brakes. There's a lot going on there......extremely high friction = noise/heat/wear. You can try a less agressive pad, which will dust/squeal less - but it will not bite into the disc as hard and will not stop the car as well.

Yep, I agree with Silver-Bolt and spool1536.

Here's the proof to back it up. It's straight from the six-page
Owner Reference Guide that Subaru gave me, page 3, item 3:
"BREMBO BRAKE SYSTEM The Brembo Brake System is a performance braking system: therefore, you may hear brake noise in some cases."

Not very descriptive, but at least Subaru acknowledges this.

Peace out,
