Question Engine import question

I'm thinking about importing a turbo engine for my 2.5. I know there is an ej22t from the 22b, and there is the ej20t from all other wrx's, and I know at least one has vvti heads. I was wondering which produced more hp stock, and which was a better engine. Any info would be appreciated.

As far as I understand it: the Jap spec WRX engine=approx 280 hp, the 22b engine=approx 300hp, the 94'ish Jap spec Legacy turbo engine=between 280 & 300hp... OR, you could just purchase a new US Spec WRX engine=227 hp from your local dealer. If desire created the need for it, you could then just upgrade to a larger turbo... I have been thinking the same thoughts recently as turbo'ing a US 2.5rs is a bit risky...


PS- Call Mike Sheilds at Spd Tuning: http://www.spdusa.com he is well informed about such things, and can clue you in as far as pricing goes. He can get the stuff, too...

the JDM WRX doesn't have 280hp...
the WRX STI Version does....
the 22B has been dynoed and shown it has more torque down low and through the revs than the standard STI but generally not more HP...
