Default Just a curious police question

Hey guys, I was just thinking about this when I pulled into my driveway: I have my front windows tinted, which is illegal as you all know in California. Now I know that if I was just driving around with the windows down, a cop could not pull me over and ask me to close them for suspicion of tint. But, suppose my car is in my driveway, parked, with the windows up and I cop drove by and saw them, could he wait until I leave my driveway and give me a ticket, even if I have my windows down when I see him? Sorry if this doesn't make sense...

Chris

You worry too much, heh. If a cop was that intent on pulling a silly stunt like that he wouldn't be wasting his time, he'd just lie that he saw them up. But the VAST majority of cops don't resort to crap like this.

Tinting is not a moving violation. He doesn't HAVE to pull you over. But any decent judge would bust such a cops balls for wasting everyone's time.

Cop's have far better things to do than to wait for you to get in your car. It's not like the FBI is across the street with binoculars and radio equipment listening to your tapped phone conversations.!

I have 15% in the rear and 50% in the fronts and haven't had any problems at all. Honestly, a cop can pull you over for ANYTHING and i mean anything!!! My borther was CHP and now he's a sheriff. You should see the traffic code book. it's thicker than a telephone book.

So it boils down to a few things.... 1)how the cops feel 2) If you look suspcious enough to have a warrant (and yes race does fall into that category because my brother knows of cops that profile). 3)If you're just a stupid/wreckless driver.

i asked a family member who's a cop in a nearby city something similar situation.

he said, unless you are making, doing or showing something else more illegal or they need to stop you for more stuff, then yes.

otherwise, he tells me most are car fans so stuff like that can get away.

but also remember, the cops wanted the TINT law because when they stop cars at nite, heck even at certain hours during the day, and they have to walk up to a car with tinted windows, that is when they get very nervious about things.

so do yourself a favor, when you are stopped by the cops, especially at nite, and when you have LEGAL tint in the rear windows, ROLL DOWN ALL WINDOWS!

turn on your interior lights and put your hands on the steering wheel. ask your passengers to put their hands where the cops will them without getting nervous.

when the cop does come up to you and ask for your license and registration, ONLY then do you start getting them.

otherwise, it may look like you are reaching for a weapon or something.

now back to the tint issue. now you know there are cops that are the exception, so if you drive by them and they just happen to be in a bad mood, that might get you a ticket.

My brother had his windows tinted on his IS300 and cops would drive by our house and then knock on our door telling him he needs to remove the tint. That happend to him about five times before he had them finally removed. My brother does drive with his windows down though but eh ... he had to remove them anyways.
