Default visiting from Maine - PCH restaurant recommendations?

Hi all,

I'm in town for business and have my girlfriend with me. We're staying in san mateo, but are planning to do the coastal highway 1 drive. I'm thinking that taking it north of san fran will be our best bet scenery/romance-wise. Does anyone have any restaurant recommendations somewhere north of san fran? Doesn't have to be anything fancy, but I would rather not go to a hole in the wall place. Romantic places are a definite plus.

thanks in advance

Eric

If you go North on 101 out of SF (this will take you across the Golden Gate) you can do a few cool things.

Right on the other side of the GG bridge is an area called the headlands. Very cool area. GREAT views of the city, very pretty and romantic. When you're done there, you can also head down to Sausalito, which is an AWESOME town. Don't know if your girl likes Dave Matthews Band (mine does), but they recorded their most recent album down there. If you head down to Sausalito from the gg bridge, there is a small restaurant called Anjelines (I think that's the right spelling). Very good food, great atmosphere, incredibly cheap prices.

If you take 1 North towards Fort Bragg (a few hours, but WELL worth it), check out the brewery there in town. Food is really good. Here's a view from 1:

The Station House Cafe is a nice place in Point Reyes Station (about an hour and a half north of SF). It's not fancy or anything, but they have some great seafood. Their bread pudding is also a signature dish. It's on highway 1. The town is small and it's on the main drag. You can't miss it.

Timber Cove Lodge in Fort Ross. Been awhile since I ate there but it was always a very good meal with fabulous views and ambiance.

A few miles north of there in Gualala is St. Orres. Which has amazing food(best south of Mendocino, on the coast) and interesting archecture. Bring cash.

Depends on how far north you're heading. Fort Bragg area, head to the North Coast Brewing Company... good stuff
