Will radar detector work through semi-metallic tint (front & back windshield)?
Hey all, I wanted to mount a radar detector above the rear view mirror, but I have a 13% titanium semi-metallic tint on the front windshiled (it's a 5" strip along the top of the windshield). I also haev 22% semi-metallic tint on my rear window. Anyone know if a radar detector will still work okay through this tint, or should I not even bother? I really want to mount it above my rear view mirror for a stealth install. Thanks.

I think it has been tested to reduce sensitivity. If you want stealth, get one of those systems that mount sensors behind your grill and rear bumper.

Here is my install of a remote sensor system (the white RS):
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...&highlight=sr7 As for performance behind the tint, you will probably trash any Laser reception, both Escort and V1 state that tinted glass can adversely affect RADAR detection range (actually, this link here hints that tinting the rear and side windows can "confuse" the directional tracking abilities of the unit. I haven't heard as much by the V1 users here, but my sensors are mounted outside the vehicle so I have no such problem . |

ok, how well does a radar detector work behind regular tint? been thinking about getting one and mounting above the rear view mirror, but I have a tint border covering the area.

Speaking of which, the 06 WRX, and I assume all the 06 cars, have a darkened section above the mirror. Hard to tell exactly WHAT it is made of, but I suspect it's a metallic substance. I wonder how it affects a detector mounted up there. For the time being I've mounted mine down low and offset to the left of center about 6 inches to avoid shading the sun sensor. Which seems to be OK, but I wonder if the hood scoop is blocking some of it's view. Arrgh.

When I use the V1, I attach it to the right of the mirror. The sensor's petty much just below the shading. It works as well as it did with the RS that had clear glass up there.

my '05 has the same stuff on the windshield. i have a V1 mounted above the rearview mirror, to the left of the post. however, there is enough room for the v1 to "see" underneath the darkend section. the suction cups stick fine to the darkend section. i'm still shopping around for a good price on some ceramic tint. it's been pretty cold this winter, will probably put it off 'till late spring |
